CASA DE ALMENDRAS is a newly renovated traditional ALPUJARRAN cortijo set in large semi-tropical gardens with a private pool and stunning views of the SIERRA NEVADA mountains.

CASA DE ALMENDRAS was lovingly restored in Spring 2015. The house is a typical Alpujarran design with chestnut beams, white washed walls and hand-made terracotta floors. We've added some modern touches like air-con in the living room and a well equipped, hand-made kitchen.

The gardens provide plenty of opportunity to relax and recharge. Spacious and beautifully landscaped with internal dry stone walls and orange, lemon, almond and olive trees. There are several large shady terraces of over 150 metres, with comfortable seating areas and a 6 by 4 metre swimming pool filled with fresh mountain spring water.

THE CORTIJO has amazing views, nestling in a rural and private location but not isolated. A 10 minute stroll will take you into the bustling market town of ORGIVA where you can find a good choice of banks, supermarkets and restaurants. A bohemian, international community makes this traditional Spanish town come alive, especially on Thursday market day when everyone is trying to sell their hand-crafted wares. It's also a great location to base an exploration of this unique and unspoilt region.

THE PROPERTY is south facing, with breath-taking views of the SIERRA LUJAR mountains to the front and the SIERRA NEVADA to the rear. As late as April you can sit in the sun next to a tree dripping with lemons and in the distance see the snow capped mountains of the Sierra Nevada. A place of extremes, in the Spring some ski on the GRANADA slopes in the morning and drive 40 mins back to swim in the pool in the afternoon (though we have yet to try it!).

In addition to the house there is a utility room near the pool area with a second large fridge for drinks and ice, along with a barbecue for el fresco dining.

The property has 3 bedrooms; one double with a kingsize bed, another double with two single beds and a third bedroom with a daybed that converts into a large double or stays as a single.

** We only allow four guests, as we have just one bathroom. It does mean though that friends or siblings can have their own room.

Please note the swimming pool is not fenced off and there is no shallow end.

THINGS TO DO

LAS ALPUJARRAS is an unspoilt region of Andaulcia with plenty to keep you occupied if you tire of sunning yourself by the pool. For those who want to abandon the car there's plenty to do right on the doorstep. The area is famous for its hiking, biking and horse riding trails. We can put you in touch with the best local guides and businesses in the area.

If you want to venture farther afield there's plenty to explore. There are too many great places to mention here but the highlights are;

- A 20 min drive up the mountains to the famous white villages of Pampaneira, Bubion and Capileira where artisans keep alive centuries old local crafts. There's lots of independent shops selling their wares, excellent restaurants and beautiful mountain walks.

- In the opposite direction, drive for 35 mins to the Costa Tropical and eat barbecued sardines on the beaches of Salobrena, swim and watch a spectacular sunset. Explore the quieter more secluded coves where it's a snorkelers paradise.

- The city of Granada is a mere 40 min drive away and well worth a visit. Wander around the Albaicin's maze of ancient streets, sample the tapas, visit the Alhambra Palace and indulge yourself at the luxurious Arab Baths.

GETTING THERE: The nearest airport is MALAGA and it takes just under 1hr 30 mins to drive. ORGIVA is 8 miles off the main E15 highway travelling north from MALAGA. It is clearly signed off the main road from both directions.

CAR HIRE: We use MALAGA CAR and book through the internet. They're good value for money and reliable. They run courtesy buses from the airport and are just 2 mins away. We can pass on their contact details.

MEET AND GREET: Guests will be greeted by SERGIO and CELIA - a young Spanish couple who look after the house in our absence. Sergio is in charge of the garden and general maintenance and is available if there are problems during your stay. Celia is the house-keeper and will do any additional cleans during your stay. She can also do a food shop in advance of your stay.

Casa de Almendras is a licensed and legal tourist let - which means it has met the standards set down by the Andalucian Tourist Board.

Access to the property: Please note that the last 450 metres is not paved - it's perfectly drivable though in a normal car.

BOOKINGS are Saturday to Saturday. Please note we do not take arrivals or departures on a Sunday as our house manger is not available.

A 30% deposit is payable upon booking.

The other 70% is payable six weeks before the start of the holiday.

Idyllic retreat in paradise

A second visit to this beautiful, Idyllic, cosy and secluded cortijo in may was as good as the first visit in September. The orange and lemon trees were in abundance and the views towards the mountains both north and south were magnificent. A true relaxation haven for anyone who wants to have a home from home holiday in pure bliss yet benefiting from the hot climate.

Lovely House and Garden

We loved this house and garden area. Our son especially liked all of the fruit trees and loved picking oranges and juicing them. The pool area was lovely, but unfortunately the weather wasn't hot enough to use this area much during our stay. Loved all the relaxation areas in the garden and the pool toys. Great house, with all amenities required and has 2 kids channels on the TV.

The perfect holiday home

We were so thrilled with every aspect of our stay in this home. A perfect distance from town and mountains and with so many ways to relax and have fun right at the house. Our welcome was warm and we felt well cared for throughout our visit. The grounds are absolutely beautiful with a bounty of citrus and almond trees, and the house was perfectly equipped for all that we needed. We definitely hope to return.

Cortijo and location

Absolutely stunning, wonderful location with views to the mountains, beautiful gardens and the ideal place to spend a relaxing holiday in a very special home.

Stunning gem

Beautiful, stunning surroundings, tranquil and beautifully set out home from home. Vivianne was brilliantly, organised, communicative and extremely helpful, we were met by the house keepers who were lovely, they took us to the property and showed us around but didn't outstay their welcome. The house stands in beautifully kept gardens with orange, lemon and fig trees, the swimming pool is small but beautifully formed with comfortable sun loungers and settee type longer under and gorgeous gazebo, we had breakfast on the outside table on a morning and BBQ on an evening on the provided BBQ. The house has 3 good sized bedrooms with very comfortable beds, the sitting room which has an open plan kitchen, dining table and a fabulous log burner, which we used as the weather wasn't great was really cosy and fabulously comfortable with two squashy sofas and throws to snuggle down with drinks while dad cooked. Really rustic, country feel with beautiful decor and nice touches like candles and throws and comfy cushions. Orgiva is a great town, very hippy feel and great places to eat and drink, very pretty area, only 40 minutes to the beautiful city of Granada where we had a fab day, only and hour and a half to the Sierra Nevadas which for us as skiers would be fantastic to ski, although closed was brilliant to drive up to and scope out. All in all had a fabulous stay with the brilliantly communicative, helpful Vivianne who so obviously loves her property that it shows in the little extras and knows the area, so helping to make the holiday that little bit special. Very easy and a fabulous find.

Casa D'Almendras

Casa de Almendras more than lived up to our expectations. The house has been really stylishly renovated and decorated was very comfortable and had everything you needed - air conditioning, gas barbecue, cot and high chair. It was also much closer to town than we had anticipated so easy to stroll down to the supermarket or out for a meal. The garden and pool are fantastic with fragrant flowers and incredible mountain views adding to the overall ambience. We really liked the Alpujarras as well and are keen to return in Autumn or Spring for some cooler walks and more exploring the mountain villages.

Stunning House - Perfect for Relaxing!

This is a beautiful, well restored, stylish house; immaculately clean & the gardens are amazing. It seems to have been very thoughtfully designed with care taken to ensure comfort & relaxation - lots of areas in the garden for sunbathing or sitting in the shade, whatever you need. Lovely to pick oranges & lemons each morning from the trees in the garden, for the best fresh breakfast juice ever! The views from the front door & from the garden are amazing. Great communication from both owner & housekeeper, before & during our stay. Easy walk into the village - ten minutes max, down easy track. Really lovely relaxing week spent here as a couple but would easily accommodate a small family. Cannot fault it - don't look any further; just book this beautiful house!!

Paradise in Spain / Paradijsje in Spanje

Would you like to go on holidays in paradise than this comes very close. In the morning you can enjoy your breakfast in the garden with orange juice from the oranges that grow in the garden. The location is great, beautiful garden and private pool. Although there is no fence around the pool we did not have any problems with our child of 2. The garden is so big that there is plenty playground away from the pool. We thought that the house was larger and nicer than you can judge from the pictures provide don the website. The house is perfect for a relaxing holiday and in case you are looking for something active there is a lot to do in the area. Op zoek naar een paradijsje dit komt heel dicht in de buurt. In de ochtend heerlijk buiten ontbijten met vers sinaasappelsap van de sinaasappels uit de tuin. Mooie locatie met een schitterende tuin en privé zwembad. Ondanks dat rond het zwembad geen hek staat was het voor ons met een kind van 2 jaar geen probleem. Met name omdat de tuin zo groot is dat er voldoende speelruimte is. Het huis vonden wij in werkelijkheid mooier en groter dan op de foto’s die op de website te zien zijn. Het huis is heerlijk om te relaxen maar ben je op zoek naar een actieve vakantie in de omgeving is voldoende te beleven.
