La Amapola is a restored Andalucian country villa, styled with a Mediterranean feel with wooden beams, whitewashed walls and original terracotta floors. An old family library, hand-picked artworks and Granadian ceramics all add to the charm. There is a huge 55m2 kitchen dining room, a separate lounge and 3 luxurious bedrooms. The large swimming pool is stunningly situated and totally private, with breathtaking views of Lake Vinuela and the Mediterranean.
The farmhouse is set in 3 acres of private land, with beautiful Mediterranean gardens, olive, almond and pomegranate trees, grapevines and flowering climbers. A sunny walled courtyard runs the length of the house and at the front of the house is a wide shaded terrace with outdoor barbecue, Moroccan mosaic table and seating for 8 for dining alfresco. There are grapes, peaches and apricots in season and an organic herb and salad garden. Local olive oil from our own olives and specially bottled “La Amapola” Rioja wine are available upon request.
The large 10 x 5 metre pool is located a short stroll through the olive grove, up a flight of steps cut out of the hillside. The views are breathtaking, sweeping down to the lake and sea, with the mountains a dramatic backdrop. The pool and pool terraces are for the sole use of clients and are completely private and undisturbed.
Jasmine, hibiscus and bougainvillea, wildflowers, butterflies and birdlife, no traffic, yet within easy access of local shops and bars, 25 mins from beaches and an hour from Malaga/Granada – your own private paradise!

"Blissfully Relaxing! La Amapola is in one of the most beautiful locations in southern Spain. The view from the large hill-top swimming pool is absolutely spectacular, stretching down over olive groves and meadows of wild flowers to the blue lake below and on to the sea. The house itself has a vast kitchen and verandah and attractive bedrooms. The couple who own it are very hospitable and helpful. We had a wonderful time and can't wait to come back!"

Bedrooms: Master en-suite Bedroom with roof terrace and romantic king size 4 poster bed, plus safe for valuables; Upstairs en-suite bedroom with double bed and 2nd mezzanine platform bed, very popular with teenagers and young adults! Downstairs bedroom with king size bed.
Bathrooms: 2 fully equipped bathrooms with bath/shower, WC, sink and bidet.
There are ceiling fans for summer and radiators and fireplaces for winter.
CHILDREN
We welcome small children! We provide a cot and high chair, as well as a large selection of books, films, games and diversions for children of all ages. Small children can play safely within the walled courtyard which leads out from the main house, and the terrace has lockable gates to stop children from wandering off to the swimming pool unaccompanied.
ACTIVITIES
Local activities include hill walking and climbing, swimming and water sports, horse riding, bird watching and mountain biking.
The white hilltop villages of the Axarquia, Granada's Arabic quarter and the Alhambra Palace are just some of the nearby attractions. Other recommended day trips include Malaga's Picasso museum and the wonderful tapas bars in the Centro Historico, the fabulous Moorish architecture of Cordoba, the hot springs at Alhama de Granada, the lake at Beremejales and the gorgeous scenery at El Chorro Gorge. Seville, Ronda, Cordoba and Nerja are all also accessible for a pleasant day trip or a relaxing night away.
LOCATION
La Amapola is located 25kms inland between Malaga and Granada. There is an excellent local restaurant about 3kms away, and a pretty hilltop bar in a beautiful location 4kms away, as well as some fabulous seafood restaurants on the coast half an hour away. A selection of delicious tapas and raciones are available at the local bars - ask for our recommendations.
Car hire is essential and we recommend shopping around for the best deal as prices often vary quite dramatically. There are numerous car hire companies, including Hertz, Avis, Europcar, malagacarhire and Hellehollis - we can offer a 15% discount with Hellehollis.
