Almachar

Almachar is a picturesque whitewashed village set between green and fertile farmland on the side of a hill, with spectacular mountain scenery all around, set in the heart of the labyrinth landscape of the Axarquia mountains.

The village nestles amongst vineyards, olive groves, orchards and fields of cereals; stretching down to the bowl of the River Almachar from the low ridge to the Vallejo peak to the south.

Almachar is located 20 kilometres from the beaches at Rincon de la Victoria, a 30 minute drive, and 30 kilometres from Malaga, a 45 minute car journey.

Almachar is a wonderful setting for an idyllic holiday, you can take in the relaxed pace of life or hire a car and explore all the province  of Malaga has to offer.

History
The town was founded by the Moors who named
the town, the name dervices from being located on the prairie. Legend has it that the close to the river Almachar there is a cave in which the Moors hid
many riches before the re-conquest.

Beaches
The nearest beaches to Almachar are those at
Rincon de la Victoria which take around 30 minutes to reach, and are well worth this short journey. There are also the beaches at Torre del Mar, which has one of the longest promenades in Europe.

Golf
The nearest golf course is Anoreta Golf, which is around 15 kilometres away. It was the first golf course built to the east of the city of Malaga and was designed by Ryder Cup winner José María
Cañizares.

Cuisine
Almachar's cuisine is typical of the area, with lots of seafood and rice on the menu. There are a number of tapas bars, restaurants and cáfes in Almáchar. Tapas is a delicious way to spend a relaxed meal, and although the portions are naturally small there is no limit to how many portions you can have. Some more traditional bars will often give you a small amount of tapas for free with a caña (small beer).

Climate
Almachar enjoys the sub-tropical Mediterranean climate which has hot summers and warm winters. Divided from the sea by the mountains means the heat can soar in summer, but it remains
comfortable for the most part. Temperatures are an average of 32 ºC in summer.
