The PP party – Partido Popular - is proposing to open a new ‘British route,’ in the Province of Huelva. The route is aimed at promoting mining areas in the area. Areas that are not on the traditional tourist map.
The Rio Tinto mines are said to be the oldest in the World. They were sold to the British by the Spanish government in the 19th Century. A purpose built town, Bella Vista, is on the proposed route and sits just a few kilometres from the Rio Tinto mines. The route is to run from Rio Tinto to Punta Umbría.
Province of Huelva
The Province of Huelva has one of the least developed tourist industries in Spain. Yet, it is also blessed with some Spain’s best beaches and most attractive destinations.
Strict planning laws (that have been enforced) have ensured that much of Huelva is still an untouched rural destination.
One area that has recently opened up to tourism is Isla Canela.
