A new tourist attraction has opened in Benalmadena on the Costa del Sol and has proved a great success, a Butterfly Farm. The Butterfly farm is the largest one of its kind in Europe and is a perfect choice for a day out with the family.

The 1,500 m2 park is inspired with an Asian design which is very appropriate to its location; next to the Westerns World’s largest Buddhist Stupa, located on the outskirts of Benalmadena.  Inside the park one can roam around freely observing the behavior of about 1,500 butterflies from all over the world of more than 150 different species. If you have rented a holiday home in Benalmadena then you should not miss the chance to see the Butterfly Farm.

Within in the park you will not only see the butterflies flying around you, but you will also have the possibility to observe their life cycle and development; from eggs to caterpillars and finally when they spread their wings for the first time; the birth of the butterflies.

In order for these delicate species to survive the Butterfly farm has adapted the original habitat of the butterflies meaning that inside the park the temperatures are around 24-28 degrees with 80% humidity.

Europest largest Butterfly Farm.

One of many curious facts that one will learn at the Butterfly Farm is that the average life span of a butterfly in the wild is only of approximately 7 days! However within “captivity” the butterflies can live up to 2-3 weeks.  Some species, like the Zebra, can live up to 10 months!

The Butterfly Farm is open every day open from 10:00 to 19:00. The prices are: 8,50€ for adults and  5,00€ for children 3-12 years old.
