Día de la Hispanidad, Fiesta del Pilar, or Nacional?

If you happen to arrive for a holiday in Spain this week, then you’ll notice that everything is closed on Friday – this is yet another National day off – it always falls on the 12th and is one of the biggest Spanish holidays. Día de la Hispanidad commemorates the day that Christopher Columbus – that early Italian tourist – first set foot in the Americas – sometimes it’s just called Columbus Day, or more recently National Day.

RENFE Wins Prestigious Global World Travel Award

Spain’s national public rail service RENFE, has won a prestigious World Travel Market Global Award in recognition of its contribution to the tourism industry and the creation of a rail network which serves all regions throughout the Iberian Peninsula. The fast AVE service received a special mention for reducing train journey times between Spanish cities.

3200 Hours of Sunshine in Conil

It surprises me that sun seeking travelers always heading for the south of Spain mostly end up on the Costa del Sol. If one is really looking for endless kilometers of peaceful sandy beaches and year-round sunshine the place to be is “Costa de la Luz”. The name says it all, The Light Coast. One specific place that shouldn’t be overlooked for that relaxing beach holiday is Conil de la Frontera.

According to the British Post Office Travel Insurance gap years are no longer just for young students. Statistics released by the Post Office show a quarter (25%) of adults aged 55 plus are thinking about taking an extended trip abroad. Compared to just over 19% of young students. With Spain being one of the most popular destinations.
