Mary Anne Goossens, 49, the Dutch tourist that went missing in the Nerja area 18 days ago, has been found alive and well. As more details of her miraculous escape emerge, it almost reads as the script for an upcoming Hollywood Blockbuster.
Mary Anne Goossens
Mary Anne arrived in Nerja on June 16th, registering and paying for her hotel until June 22nd. She left all personal belongings, credit cards etc in her hotel room and just ‘vanished.’ Triggering a massive search from locals and expats alike.
She was found yesterday morning by a group of hikers trapped in a well on Nerja’s famous Rio Chillar walk. Although very close to the traditional route, she was found near the top in an area called Cortijo El Imán.
For 18 days she survived by drinking water from the river, and filling her clothes with leaves and plants to protect herself from the cold at night.
She is reported to be in good health and was praised by the emergency services for her ‘intelligence and strength of character,’ that enabled her to get through a situation in which many would have perished.
Mary Anne is currently in hospital, under observation but is expected to be released very shortly.
