The Gaia Spirit Gathering is an eco festival with a difference. Taking place for the first time this year, from 2-4th September in La Muela, Vejer de la Frontera, the festival aims to bring together all the elements needed for creating a sustainable culture: personal growth, holistic health, social and environmental activism, art, culture and… of course there will be a bit of fun thrown in!

The festival has been set up by a group of like-minded who wanted to create an event where people could come to learn and improve on their quality of life and to awaken their spiritual and ecological awareness, in a beautiful natural setting in Andalusia.

The Gaia Spirit vision is definitely about participation and concept has brought together locals, experts and visitors to make the event happen. Any and all skills are welcome, and this summer groups of participants have been busy planning, constructing and rehearsing for the main event in September. All volunteers are welcome, the organisers La Asociación Holística Anayansi, have admitted that the event is ambitious and grateful for any volunteers and it seems that they are coming from far and wide to help out.

The association is a non-profit organisation, so any profits generated by the event will be donated to a handful of International Development Projects, including the Fundación “Agrónomos sin Fronters” in Tanzania, Africa and the construction of a project housing young girls in Otumba, Mexico, through the Asocación Las Beguinas.

So what can you expect during the three day festival?

Eco and world workshops, holistic therapy sessions, music, Tai Chi, Chi Qong, wonderful locally produced and prepared food, lots of children’s activities and lots more. The Gaia Spirit Gathering is really about taking a step back from the demands of today’s living, brand and peer pressure and learning to live a little more harmoniously with yourself and the natural planet that we live on.

The town of Vejer de la Frontera is set in a

Conil de la Frontera

stunning location in the province of Cadiz, Andalusia. Situated around 10 kilometres inland from the natural coastal region, including the wonderful seaside resorts of Los Caños de Meca and Conil de la Frontera and the historic Cabo de Trafalgar. The weekend also provides a wonderful opportunity to visit the old castellated town of Vejer de la Frontera and the wonderful coastline closeby.

The three day event is great value, just 50 € per person, which includes camping and entrance to all the workshops, chats and performances. Children under 12 get free entrance. I for one will be there, learning, loving and enjoying a feeling of freedom from the constraints of modern day living. For further information visit the festival website. Hope to see you there!
