Or come to several opening parties!  The big name clubs on this Balearic Island will all put on opening parties during the month of June – come and join in the fun.  Rather relax?  Ibiza has that too, with a rustic beauty and sunsets like nowhere else on earth. Family friendly? That too – the Spanish Tourism Office have been working hard to promote family tourism in the last couple of years  - with results that have put Ibiza on the map as a top Spanish destination for everyone...so come on….join in the party!

Top Hot Spot

Young, free and single in the eighties, Ibiza was for most of my generation The Party Island, and the top destination for those coveted 2 weeks off work in early Summer – an early suntan, the glistening sea, music, those famous sunsets – and not too many sunrises!! Today it still offers the traveller all of that and more.  Situated in the warm and azure Mediterranean sea, 80 kms or so from Valencia on the mainland, and the third largestof the Balaerics - a top destination!

As the Vengaboys song goes `Whoah, we´re going to Ibiza!´ Now I feel old…!

Pining for Ibiza

Also known as one of the Pitiusic Islands, or Pine islands, and once used by Cilician pirates as a base – they were eventually driven out by the Romans. The other Pine Island is fabulous Formantera, another great Spanish destination.  There are actually over 50 Islands in the Balearic necklace, most of them are uninhabited, climb up and gaze at them all from Sa Talaiassa, the highest point on Ibiza at 475 metres above sea level.

So, where to base yourself for your precious 2 weeks of sunshine and sangria?

If you´re looking for nightlife and beats to last all night then head to Ibiza Town or Sant Antoni – San Antonio  - and pack your party gear.  Big name nightclubs like Pacha, Space, Sankeys, Amnesia and others have drawn in the good time crowds for years  - and June is a great time when you can take in the opening parties to kick off the season.  Here are a few of the events that you might want to go to:

Relax and unwind…

Not here for the nightlife? Relaxing more your idea of a holiday?  Ibiza is still the right choice. Beautiful beaches, quiet coves where you can spend a day with the Med lapping at your toes, sleepy traditional village and Island culture by the bucket and spade load! It´s not all about the clubs!

eivissa beach

Eivissa has beaches too! Also known as Ibiza Old Town

If you´re a culture vulture head to Ibiza Old Town - also called Eivissa -  and sample the slice of history here.  Ibiza has the tag of World Heritage Site from UNESCO, It´s easy to see why too.  Visit the Santa María Cathedral  - 13th century – inside discover the museum, the 6oo year old golden cross, the magnificent Bell Tower.  Find the Museum of Contemporary Art and the Archaeological Museum- the latter is built directly over a Carthagean burial site.

Try out the local restaurants and café culture too.  Seafood and eat it! Fish and shellfish, the Island´s bounty is here for you to enjoy – the kids will love trying Flaó the local cheesecake made with honey, aniseed and herbs, mmmm…..

Wash your dinner down with a glass or two of Frígola the local herb liquer made with thyme.

Legendary stuff

Ever heard the expression ` I wouldn´t go there if it was the last place on Earth?¨ Well, according to Nostradamus Ibiza will be the final refuge on Earth, the prevailing wind patterns ensure that if nuclear disaster strikes, it will be the last remaining and safe place….another fact which may please the arachnophobics among you is that there are no harmful creepy crawlies or dangerous reptiles on the Island.  The non volcanic soil has always been believed to have magical powers and many Islanders today wear an amulet with soil in it around their necks from protection from evil. Maybe these reasons are why Ibiza has always attracted New Age arty types over the years…?

Whether you come here to sit with Granny and the kids on the beach, enjoy the watersports and activites of Ibiza, search for etchings in the galleries or just let your hair down in the clubs, Ibiza has something for everyone…see you there!
