Easy access to the Canary Islands with Ryanair in 2011! A month ago Ryanair announced three new bases on the Canary Islands for year 2011. The low cost airline will base six new aircrafts across the islands, 2 on Gran Canaria, 2 on Lanzarote and another 2 on Tenerife. Along with the new bases the company will also increase the frequency of the Fuerteventura routes.
This will lead to 112 routes to and from the Canary Islands, in which 35 new routes are included, thus helping eager travelers to escape the continent for some anticipated sun and fun. The outcome will be 4.5m passenger’s p.a. which will restore traffic lost by the Canary Islands during the years 2007-2009. In 2009 the budget airline carried only 300,000 passengers to the Canary Islands, so starting from February 2011 there will be a great increase and profit for the tourism industry on the Canary Islands. The new routes will sustain 4,500 local jobs including 350 Ryanair pilots and cabin crew. Buy your tickets now!

Unfortunately at the same time Ryanair are cutting routes to the North of Spain after closing all three routes to Santiago de Compostela. At least the people in Mallorca can now visit Legoland with the new route to Billund (Denmark).
Truth be known keeping up with Ryanairs chopping and changing of routes is a proverbial nightmare!
