Fun with the kids in Antequera – near Málaga
May 14th, 2012 by Carol Byrne
Last week my daughter went on a field trip with her school to Antequera. The aim of the day was to explore the Karst or Lime formations of the area known as El Torcal – which used to be under the sea. Listening to her rave about her day and viewing the photos she took – I thought it would be a nice addition to your list of things to do with the kids on your next Spanish holiday.

Seeing Spain – religiously!
March 30th, 2012 by vernon
People tour Spain for all manner of reasons. Some for the scenery. Some for the variety of food on offer. Others to go walking or to watch Spanish football. All manner of people come to Spain for all manner of reasons.
I’m not a religious person but you don’t have to be in order to appreciate some of the finest locations and most impressive architecture on show across Spain. Churches, monasteries and convents are plentiful in Spain. And there are so very many religious monuments to see en route.
In part one of my biblical proportion tour across Spain, i begin with some small churches and big cathedrals.

Spanish architecture – without the bull
November 1st, 2011 by vernon
I have been drawn to take photographs of bullrings on my travels around Spain. And I’m not sure I can explain why.
I stress they have to be empty. The feeling I get is akin to sitting in an empty but old football stadium in the UK. Not a modern one built of steel or those that are soulless.
Some of the most peaceful moments I have enjoyed in Spain were when sat in a very empty bullring.
What I know about the intricacies of architecture you could fit on a slice of chorizo, but there can be no doubt that in cities which have an old bullring, there are also some other fine buildings to be seen.

Parklife, naturally! In Andalucía
October 4th, 2011 by Carol Byrne
The enormous area of Andalucía that covers Southern Spain is home to acres and acres given over to Natural Parkland – an abundance of preserved areas that act as a haven for wildlife, plant-life and home to geological formations and spectacular peaks.
The Spanish weather is nearly always guaranteed to please on your holiday, and where better to take the kids exploring on a free day out, and get a little exercise into the bargain?

Just off the motorway in Spain – part 2
August 8th, 2011 by vernon
It is so easy to just hop off a Spanish motorway and discover new sights and experience villages, towns and cities that you might otherwise have driven right by. After all, not all destinations look thrilling from the autovia. I know of many places which, as viewed from the highway, would not entice you to see more of what they have to offer.
That is usually because some of the worst architecture in Spain is alongside the motorway. But there are some great places to see within a short detour. Take a break from driving and see somewhere new.

Watching birds go by
July 28th, 2011 by vernon
I confess I’ve always liked birdwatching. But not the type that requires me to carry a pair of binoculars. Most of mine has been undertaken while sat in the sunshine with a beer in my hand. And there’s never been a feather in sight!
But I do like spotting the birds with beaks as they fly overhead.
But to be a serious bird spotter in Spain requires time and patience. I have neither, sadly. But I know people who do.
They are the lucky ones. They enjoy what is one of the least talked about highlights of living or holidaying in Spain.

Lakes in Spain
April 26th, 2011 by vernon
So you want to rent a property, or live full time, in a peaceful and tranquil part of Spain. You would like a vast expanse of water close by, but not seaside crowds. You want to look upon clear turquoise waters, whatever the weather.
Why not try lake living? I undertook a road trip that took in just a handful of the many lakes in Spain. Those staying or living near a lake were very positive about the benefits of lake living. Even when the blue waters were shrouded in fog or low cloud, I could see what they were talking about.
The lakes of Spain remind me of autumn mornings in the English Lake District.
And here is why.

Things to do in Antequera
September 3rd, 2010 by John Kramer
Situated in the geographical heart of Andalucia, is the city of Antequera. Called ‘Anticaria’ by the Romans – the old city, Antequera is a town that feels almost lost in time, carefully preserving its age-old charms.
Known as the city of Spires for its many Churches and with Antequera’s museums housing approximately 80% of all the art treasures in the province of Malaga, there is no shortage of things to see and do. Here is short selection of some of Antquera’s highlights.

The Way of the Wolves
July 9th, 2010 by Louise Juhlin
The Lobo Park (Lobo meaning Wolf) is situated outside of the town Antequerra in southern Spain just about 47 km north of Malaga. This wildlife park is definitely something out of the ordinary and cannot be compared to any other typical touristy animal parks. The park is home to different breeds of wolves whom are under the care of the “The Wolf Whisperer”, Daniel Weigend, a passionate German whom has dedicated his life to understanding the nature of wolves in their natural surroundings without them being “domesticated” by humans. But there is much more to it than just that…
