One of the best aspects about holidaying in Spain is that you can see so much in the evening. At almost all times of the year, and in the majority of destinations, it is warm enough to wander the streets of a Spanish city, town or coastal location and savour all that is on offer. And there is little finer than doing what the locals do at night. Promenading!

As resorts go, I tend to seek out and favour those that have a local Spanish flavour, rather than the overly touristy kind.  A favourite of mine is situated within the sunniest, driest little corner of Europe, on the Costa Almeria, called Roquetas de Mar.  The name means little rocks of the sea, a former Moorish fishing village, now a traditional resort without the skyscrapers and with views to the snow capped Sierras.  What do you like? Fishing, birdwatching, beach life, water parks, golf?  I love it all, well, apart from the golf – I’m with Mark Twain on that one, he reckoned it spoiled a good walk! – Whatever is your bag then you’ll find that it’s all here, waiting for you…
