So, in a series of features, I am leaving my lunchbox at home and taking you by the hand to different parts of the country. And, what’s more, lunch is on me.

Not too far from my last post on Ibiza, and staying with the Balearic Islands – let´s relax for a while on the magnificent Island of Mallorca.
Nothing makes a person yearn for some Spanish sunshine than a glance at a shot of clear warm blue water and soft white sand on a stunning beach…so why not head for the best and spend some time getting to know the playas of Mallorca.

Sporty Spain

Spain has become famous for producing some of the most successful sports teams and individual stars of the last few years.
Tennis has Rafael Nadal. Cycling boasts Alberto Contador. Then, of course, there is the Spanish football team, World champions. And FC Barcelona, champions of Europe, and admired the world over for the way they play the beautiful game.
So how come Spain has produced so many winners in recent years?

Seeing Stars in Spain

For decades Spain has attracted big names from the world of literature, music, cinema, politics and sport. They have sought sun and seclusion. Success in showbiz or the arts has led many an author, musician, actor or footballer to buy a home in Spain. Many fell in love with the country and never returned to the UK.
For others it provides a hideaway. A peaceful setting from which to get inspiration for the next record or book. A pool to sit by where you can read your lines for the next part in a Hollywood blockbuster.
When so called ‘A listers’ move to Spain they hope it will go unnoticed by the press and the glossy magazines. But it never does.
However, there are many people in the public eye who do manage to live some of the year in Spain and be largely anonymous.

Sierra de Tramuntana Majorca declared a World Heritage Site

Following a meeting of UNESCO officials in Paris last week. It has been announced that the Natural Park of Sierra de Tramuntana (Tramontana) on the Island of Mallorca is to be added to the prestigious list of World Heritage sites.
Spain now has the second most World Heritage sites in the World with a total 44. Italy is in first place with 47 sites.

The Top Beach Destination in Spain

Spain still tops the list for online flight searches

According to a new study carried out by Experian Hitwise, Spain still tops the list for online flight searches by UK internet users. Monitoring millions of searches performed between May and July 2010, Malaga, Tenerife, Alicante, Barcelona and Majorca all came out in the top ten, pushing Spain way ahead of the other countries.
