Top Nudist Beaches around Málaga

May 10th, 2013 by Carol Byrne

Carol Byrne
Airlines now are just so tight with luggage restrictions. 10kg seems to go nowhere if you choose to just travel with hand baggage.  Wouldn’t it be easier to leave all the beach paraphernalia at home?! Seriously, by the time you have UN-checked all those opt out boxes – when did that happen? – and booked your Málaga flight, you’ll want to keep luggage as light as possible. Unless you wear it all for the flight - dressed like an onion – then perhaps it would make a change to go natural – let’s take a look – hey, not too closely – at the top nudist beaches around Málaga.

City Heat – Top 5 City Breaks in Spain

April 29th, 2013 by Carol Byrne

Carol Byrne
City breaks – our favourite type of mini break and the total antithesis from where we live.  A rural setting in some of the cleanest air in Europe is wonderful but sometimes a little bit of carbon monoxide is called for! A few short days in the city is a treat and a cultural top up, and needn’t cost the earth either. Spanish cities are worth exploring more than most.  Let’s take a quick look at the Top 5 city breaks in Spain, for that next weekend away.

Torrox – it’s a Tale of 3…Pueblos!

March 13th, 2013 by Carol Byrne

Carol Byrne
Torrox is a pueblo  – or rather 3 different destinations – not too far from the airport at Málaga.  It comprises the coastal resort, a hilly traditional pueblo, and even a bit in between!  We stayed there last year for a few days on a bargain break, just to take the edge out of Autumn on our mountain, and grab a little downtime.  Mostly, we speed past on the way to the airport, glancing right and left, alternating between the calm sea and the little villages and larger towns as we pass. But a few days there was a great idea, as it happens, so let me take you on a tour of Torrox.

Delving into your collection of photographs from Spain can bring back all sorts of memories. Of days in the sunshine. Of time spent on the beach or in the countryside of a country in which the landscape changes as you move from one province to another. Some of my favourite pictures were taken in the countryside, including in the province of Malaga.

Warm winter locations in Spain

December 31st, 2012 by vernon

vernon
Not everywhere in Spain is warm in winter. Contrary to popular mythology, some places are actually cold in deepest winter. Posh property in Spain

December 23rd, 2012 by Carol Byrne

Carol Byrne
Well, we’re still here. The End Of The World wasn’t nigh, as it turned out. Lucky us. Luckier still, for some this morning , waking up the day after El Gordo – the famous Spanish Christmas Lottery.  No, I didn’t win – or I wouldn’t be sitting here writing this! – but if I had, I think I would be booking myself and my friends and family into a little bit of luxury for Christmas. Not a hotel – too impersonal – but a stunning high end rental property. Now, let’s just imagine for a moment that we had the winning ticket….Where shall we go? Where’s that chauffeur?

A fiesta based on the beginnings of wine sounds great, doesn’t it? How about a celebration of local pork products to go with it? December in Spain is starting to look – and taste – very nice indeed. Experience it all for yourself and come along to Colmenar close to Málaga, for the Fería del Mosto y la Chacina 2012.

A fiesta of crumbs? Not so meagre Migas

November 20th, 2012 by Carol Byrne

Carol Byrne
You might be forgiven for thinking that Migas is a Spanish holiday destination.  It’s not, in fact it’s a traditional dish served here in Spain and eaten with gusto….as a little saucer of tapas, as a full meal, at fiestas, and never more so that the Festival of Migas in the equally traditional pueblo of Torrox, not a million miles from the ever popular Costa del Sol! Never tried Migas? Pass your plate over then, allow me to introduce you…

The 10 best Spanish stadiums to watch football

October 17th, 2012 by Carol Byrne

Carol Byrne
Ah… The Beautiful Game….watching a game of La Liga football on television is one thing, but actually attending a game is another thing altogether.  The impossible bright green of the pitch, the roar of the crowd…. Spanish football is played differently from English football, tiki taka is a word you might hear, it´s because Spanish football is played more slowly and it´s a more technical game.  Barcelona are the inventors of tiki taka – think of the seconds of a clock! But, it´s still exciting to watch, and some of the stars are bigger – or think they are! – than the massive clubs that they play for…why not see for yourself? So let´s go to a game…
