The City Break Cost Index by Spain-Holiday.com evaluates the most popular Spanish cities as destinations for city breaks by international and national travelers.

City breaks have increased by 6% in 2018 and is the fastest-growing segment of the leisure market.

The report studies typical city break costs including accommodation, airport transfer, eating out and entrance fees to the most popular local places of interest.

The key findings of the report are: 

  • Average spending on city trips is €160 (£145) per person per night.
  • Malaga offers the overall best value for a weekend break.
  • Palma, Barcelona and San Sebastian are the most expensive cities for a weekend break.
  • On average, 40% of the budget is spent on accommodation, followed by 34% on tourist activities.
  • Three of the top five best value cities for a city break are located in Andalusia – Malaga, Cordoba and Cadiz.
