El Mojon is a small village on the tip of the Mar Menor.
The Costa Calida begins at El Mojon, beside the border of the province of Alicante and ends in the South with the beach of La Carolina in Águilas, towards the border of Almería. The Costa Cálida adjoins two different seas, the Mar Menor or (small sea) and the Mediterranean.
The Mar Menor is a sea water lagoon, formed by the La Manga strip, and the Costa Calida coast. This area is visited by the Spanish to soothe various joint ailments for example arthritis and the nearby salt lakes are reputed to have easing effects on asthma.
El Mojón is an old fishing village with a superb beachand it is also adjacent to a nature discovery centre with many breeds of birds including pink flamingos.
A short distance from El Mojon you will find the Regional Park of Las Salinas y Arenales de San Pedro del Pinatar, the most important wetlands in the region of Murcia. Flocks of pink flamigos rest here each year. The saltworks here were exploited by the Romans and are a complex network of pools. from here take the road to San Pedro del Pinatar and visit the Casa del Reloj on the San Sebastian Farm.
