Gran Alacant, area of urbanisations located 15 km from Alicante and 6 km from Santa Pola. The aiport of Alicante is located about 8 km from Gran Alacant. It has a strategic position as the residential areas are built on the hillside of the lighthouse of Snata Pola, which overlooks the bay of Alicante. This means that the greatest part of Gran Alacant homes have splendid seaviews. You have all amenities nearby and will this way enjoy great holidays as there are supermarkets, restaurants, chemists, etc at walking distance.
A greatly appreciated place to go if you are staying at Gran Alacant, is the Carabassi beach, with its 4 km length of pure nature of dunes, pine trees and without any buildings.
In Santa Pola you can visit the "salinas" or salt mines that are still in use and from where you can watch splendid sunsets with a special colour due to its humidity and the presence of many birds. Santa Pola is also the town with one of the mayor fishing ports of the Mediterranean (see picture 1), so you wont have difficuties finding cozy restaurants with fresh fish on the menu.
An absolute "must" is the "Isla de la Tabarca" (see picture 2) which was made the first national Marine Reserve in 1986. You will be amazed of its crystal clear water, its fauna and flora which makes it an authentical paradise for divers.
You can visit this island 4 times a day during winter times and in the summer there are 9 departures of the marine boats that take you there.
Taking an underwater vision Catamaran costs 14€ for adults and 10€ for children between 4 and 8 years old.
