Tourist and travel info about El Cotillo!
El Cotillo
is located 45 kms from the airport, is a quiet working fishing village in the north west of the island with some excellent traditional restaurants and several small supermarkets. Ideal for those wanting to get away from the larger resorts. To appreciate El Cotillo you need to walk around and explore..... take in the waves at the old and new harbours and just relax.......
A short stroll south of the village, past El Toston Tower (local information available), brings you to sandy beaches ideal for watersports enthusiasts. To the north of the village, towards the lighthouse, is a unique coastline where offshore reefs of lava have made a barrier against the ocean waves and protect quiet lagoons with sandy beaches.
Although not essential, car hire is recommended. The roads are very quiet, ideal for driving, giving you the opportunity to explore other parts of the island, should you wish.
There is a reliable bus service from the village to Corralejo, the main resort in the north.
There are a variety of things to do on the island, as well as enjoying the beaches, which offer you the opportunity to discover different aspects of the islands landscape and culture such as La Alcogida Ecomuseum at Tefia, the Bentacuria Museum, La Rosita, Molino de Antigua and numerous villages throughout the island.
