Torrox Costa forms part of the typical white village in Axarquia with the same name (Torrox), but it is the part located at the beach. There are 9 kilomtres of beach to walk along. it is said in Torox Costa you find the best climate of Europe, and this is because of its situation, it is protected by the behind lying Sierra Tejeda which gives the area mild winters and warm summers, the sun shines all year long.
Torrox is great for beach and rural holidays. All year long, cultural and leisure activities take place in Torrox: theatre, exhibitions, music concerts, flamenco and traditional dance.
During the summer, some bars of the coast offer music shows and flamenco performances. And for the youngest, there is a wide selection of pubs and discos. Those who like sport can find suitable installations to play football, basketball, volleyball, aerobic, tennis, swimming and much more.
On the blue flag beach of "El Peñoncillo" there is a nautical school where windsurfing and canoeing can be practised. Besides there are almost infinite possibilities for trekking or mountain cycling.
Torrox has a traditional gastronomy that underlines the migas (breadcrumbs fried with garlic) with sardines, cod, clams, olives, maimones (bread and oil soup), gachas (porridge), ensaladilla arriera (muleteer salad) with segments of orange, papas a lo pobre (poor potatoes), gazpacho (cold tomato soup), ajoblanco (cold almond soup) and the sardine and anchovy kebabs. The local wines taste great. They are individually produced with high quality muscatel grapes from the local vineyards: one wine is sweet, another is medium-dry, and another one is called aguapié, which conatins less alcohol.
