Flanked by the Atlantic and the Pyrenees mountain ranges, the Basque Country occupies the north-west corner of the Iberian Peninsula, stradling the French border. One of the most industrialised region in Spain, its inhabitants have nevertheless managed to preserve through the centuries an age-old autochthonous culture which most valuable jewel is its language, Euskera, a pre-Indo European tongue whose mysterious origin has never been established. Euskadi, meaning Basque Country in the native language, is part of the Green Spain. The landscape is formed by a cliff-lined coast with quaint fishing villages and mountainous hinterland covered by green forests, offering a contrasting image to the dry and desert like central Spain. Bilbao is the industrial, financial and intellectual capital of the Basque Country. One of Spain’s largest city and the country’s major harbour, Bilbao has recently turned into a popular touristic destination through a complete architectural revival featuring Frank Gehry’s stiking Guggenheim Museum, Norman Fosters impressive subway system and Santiago Calatrava’s spectacular new airport terminal.
Everything is possible on the Basque Coast, an nothing is ever too far away.
Because you can stroll through streets steeped in history at your leisure, delve into the essence of Basque culture, take
part in the ritual of its gastronomy, or be a citizen of the world in Biarritz and Donostia - San Sebastian.
What´s more, the Basque Coast is the ideal place for indulging in nature, sports. A broad sports and leisure infrastructure covers all the possibililites you can imagine: sailing, surfing, underwater diving, horseriding, golf,...

The Basque Coast rises in that magical spot where the Pyrenees sink into the sea like stony Waves.
A land where the landscape takes on a thousand different
faces. The raging sea which spits forth foam, where dusk lasts forever; a land with a harsh and humanised landscape, the land of green silence.
Where the cliffs gravitate and the evening light transforms the beaches into long strips of golf.
