CASA DE LA RIERA
In theory, this beautiful property was meant become the home for the oldest son of Fina & Enric Badosa and his own family. The Badosa's are one of the oldest ‘clans’ in Roses – even one of the streets in the old town is named after Enric's grandfather. But fate and career prospects have the "Prodigal Son", at least temporarily, carried off to another country.
And instead of allowing the house to lie fallow and rot, the Badosa’s decided to make this wonderful home available to ‘nice’ tourist families looking for accommodation in our privileged hometown. Roses is not only located right in the centre of the world-famous Dalí triangle (Cadaqués, Figueres & Púbol), but it also borders with three totally different Nature Reserves: The breathtaking coastline along ‘Cap de Creus’, with its solitary bays; the ‘Aiguamolls de l’Empordà’ where the migratory birds from all over Europe stop on their bi-annual trips towards their preferred weather conditions and the ‘Albera’, an exciting, fertile highland landscape which houses the last wild turtles of the Mediterranean. In addition, the Bay of Roses is known for its breathtaking sunsets, because it is the only village on the Costa Brava, with a southwest orientation.
From the house one can conquer the entire ‘Empordà-Plain’ either on foot or by bicycle. Most spectacular is also the ‘Camino de Ronda’ (The Coastal Path), which can be explored without great difficulty, from the port to Cala Montjoi, where Ferran Adrià is still preparing some of the most unusual delicacies of the world. On the way to El Bulli, the hiker walks along lonely, dreamy bays, which can be reached only on foot or by boat.
The Port of Roses is home to one of the most important fishing fleets of the Spanish Mediterranean. Captures are auctioned all year round at 7 PM in the fish market. By the spring of each year many visitors come from all over the world and enrich the village with color and life. They enjoy the luxurious atmosphere of the modern marina, browse the boutiques, shops and supermarkets, the rich selection of cafes, bars and restaurants overlooking the sea. Roses continues to offer its visitors sailing and windsurfing schools, a spectacular beach promenade, excursion boats to the wildest part of the Costa Brava, public transport to the outlying attractions, such as the water amusement park, go-kart track, the parachuting school in Empuriabrava, etc. And for those who wish more than just beach & fun, the region offers countless attractions, such as the Dalí Museum in Figueres, the beautiful Mediterranean village of Cadaqués, the medieval town of Besalú, etc.
Roses is also an ideal location for a vacation outside the main holiday season, when it offers visitors a public swimming pool and many other facilities and experiences such as beautiful hiking courses and bicycle paths, water therapy treatments, etc.
Requests for weekend stays (see calendar) or longer term out-of-season rents are welcome.
