The town of Oliva is an ideal base for those who don't want to spend their holidays surrounded by other holidaying foreigners. It's a very authentic Spanish town where special occasions and fiestas are celebrated with enthusiasm, street processions and lots of fireworks.

Be sure to take your camera when you explore the Old Town which extends over a large area. Follow narrow winding streets past white washed houses where old men with lined faces greet you in the Valencian dialect and where school children will take the opportunity to try out their few words of English and often ask you to take their photo.

The nearest shops, bars and restaurants are only 5 minutes walk away and the full range of facilities in the town centre are not much further. These include Mercadona and other supermarkets, a Tourist Information Office, and regular buses to Oliva beach and to the trains at Gandia. Friday is market day when stalls selling cheap fruit and vegetables, and many other things, are set up along the Paseo.

The house itself is different to many townhouses in Oliva because it does not back onto other buildings and as a result it has more natural light, a through flow of fresh air which you'll appreciate on hot days and also more windows from which to enjoy the view. Although the house has been modernised, the best of the original features have been retained to enhance its character. The intricately carved and panelled front doors, for example, which were made big enough to allow a farmer to bring his horse and cart into the house overnight.

Not only is the house likely to be different to the one you live in at home, wherever that may be, but hopefully some of the furniture and fittings too will add to your experience of being somewhere different, maybe even a little exotic.

A Final Note From The Owner: I first saw this house on my very first visit to Oliva less than a year ago from the time of writing. Since then, I have made many improvements to the property but there are still many things I want to do in the future to make it even better, and this is reflected in the comparatively low rents for this season. As I work my way through the list, it is inevitable that the rates will rise to a level more appropriate for a house of this size and in this location.
