With an enviable climate of over 300 days of sunshine and widely recognised as one of the world’s healthiest climates Gran Alacant, Santa Pola is the place to be!
Gran Alacant has an air of friendliness about it and it’s very much a cosmopolitan mix with many different nationalities having bought into the holiday feel of the place; English is widely spoken and you won’t have a problem communicating with anyone.
We like to think we are providing ‘everything under the sun’ for a relaxing stay with most of the home from home appliances provided, if there is something we don’t have, let us know!
The sizable roof terrace solarium allows you to idle in the sun whilst reading or listening a choice BBC radio stations or even some UK commercial stations though the satellite link.
If Wi-Fi Internet access is an important factor in your life it is available with unlimited download throughout the apartment. On top of that there is a telephone with a 03300 UK telephone number (for incoming calls only) so the important people in your life can ring you on their free evening or weekend call package without paying international or in many cases ANY call charges!
Apart from radio stations the satellite also provides BBC & Sky News channels along with other free to air channels. In the unlikely event that you run out of things to do the local TV channels are in many cases dual language and a reasonable number show evening movies and other light entertainment programs.
Ceiling fans are in every room for your comfort and air conditioning in two bedrooms through portable units is more than enough to provide cool nights sleep in the height of summer.
If the roof-top solarium shower doesn’t cool you down on the hotter days there is a choice of three pools on the complex with life guards covering the summer season.
Children are welcome; within the apartment there is a portable cot / play-pen, high chair, bedside safety rail and a child’s buggy suitable up to 5 or 6 year old, you can also make use of a collection of beach and pool toys. There are a number of TV channels dedicated to children both on the satellite system and on local TV that also broadcast in English and the nearby park is a favourite pastime in the slightly cooler evenings.
For the older child in all of us there is a selection of bars, restaurants and a supermarket all just a couple of minutes walk with many more within a short distance.
The beautiful Carabassi Blue Flag beach is a 20 walk and it is the idyllic beach that you have visions of, safe, clean and at over 4 kilometres long provides plenty of space. Board walks take you down over the sand dunes onto the golden sands, here you can safely play, swim in the warm Mediterranean Sea or stroll along the shore line to the next resort towards Alicante, Los Arenales. Just be aware in the other direction towards Santa Pola the more into the remoter areas of beach you go the more clothing and swimwear become optional!
The Tren is a road train running every hour in the summer from 9am to midnight (less siesta time). The train covers the triangle from the Commercial Centre to the Lighthouse then to Carabassi Beach and runs all year apart from a few weeks starting mid February, resuming early March and you should use it at least once to get a feel for the area as it goes just about everywhere.
Paragliding; unmissable on many days flying over the coastline cliff tops from around the lighthouse is definitely for the more adventurous and is offered from two local shops with dual seating for beginners.
At just over 60 kilometres (40 miles) in distance and 50 minutes in time is Benidorm with its varied attractions. From early July to mid September many of the local shops can provide you with tickets for day trips to the Benidorm Market and Shopping Experience, Terra Mitica Theme Park, Terra Natura a New Generation Wildlife Park, Aqualandia with Lagoon Waterfalls to Wild Rapids or Mundomar with its Marine & Exotic Wildlife. It is just a couple of minutes walk to the bus stop opposite Destinations Bar near the children’s park; these trips are highly recommended and are well worth looking into.
