Casa Granada is located in Can Isaac, a peaceful area of large detached villas located on a sunny, south-facing hillside in the foothills of the Pyrenees, within easy walk of the beautiful old village of Palau Saverdera with local shops and restaurants, and just a few minutes' drive from the sea.
The villa is built around two sides of the spectacular overflow pool, with all the bedrooms looking out over the pool to the far-reaching views beyond. The living room has windows on 3 sides to make the most of the panoramic views, and has 2 sets of sliding doors which open directly on to the pool terrace. There are dining tables inside and outside, with a very large pergola (4m x 6m) giving welcome shade on hot days. The overhanging roof of the house and the plantation-style hardwood sliding shutters keep the villa cool inside.
A modern fitted kitchen with all the appliances and equipment you need has its own west-facing windows and terrace with views across to the Pyrenees.
As you can see from the photos, Casa Granada is built to a unique design with stone feature walls, bold paint colours, and the large wooden windows and doors that all add so much character. The L-shape shelters the pool terraces where there is plenty of space for sunbathing and playing. The amazing pool overflows into a smaller lower pool. The top pool measures 4m x 8m with depth ranging from 1.4m to 1.9m. There are wide steps with handrails for easy access.
The water flows down a mosaic tiled wall to the shallow lower pool which measures 4.5m x 2.6m. The depth varies but is around 60 to 80cm.
The gardens around the pool are full of Mediterranean trees and shrubs – oleander, lavender, bougainvillea and more - as well as herbs such as basil, rosemary and thyme which you can use. There is an ancient olive tree which shades a stone bench, and a pomegranate tree which gives the villa its name (Granada is Spanish for pomegranate).
The nearby village of Palau Saverdera is a characterful traditional Catalan village with its own wine cooperative, a small supermarket, butchers, bakers, newsagents and a good selection of restaurants all within a short walk or drive from the villa. The nearest restaurant is the highly recommended Nou Fusion at the entrance to Can Isaac, about 300m away.
A more comprehensive selection of shops including large supermarkets, produce markets and a huge choice of bars, restaurants and nightclubs are just 10 minutes' drive away in Roses.
The nearest beach is less than 10 minutes' drive away at Santa Margarita – a large sandy and family friendly beach. A wide choice of other beaches within 20 minutes.
A short drive takes you to the spectacular scenery to the North of the Bay of Roses, where wooded cliff walks lead to isolated coves (including the one where the world famous EL Bulli restaurant is situated), or to any part of the long sandy beach which curves around the bay from Roses to L'Escala. Historical towns and villages like Cadaques and Figueres, both linked with artist Salvador Dali, are scattered around. Also nearby are the protected nature reserves of the Aiguamolls wetlands and the Medes Islands. It is a great area for walking, cycling, birdwatching and horse riding. Water sports include kite surfing and scuba diving, and you can rent boats and jet skis with or without a license. Just 5 to 10 minutes from the villa you will find Aqua Brava water park, a go-kart track and the Empuriabrava sky diving centre. Perelada golf course is about 15 minutes by car, several others within 1 hour. In winter it is possible to ski within 2 hours driving. Located about 30 minutes from the French border.
