If you are looking for something a little different to teeming tourist resorts and crowded beaches, why not try a holiday a little inland on the fabulous River Ebro?

Our 2 apartments are situated right on the banks of this magnificent river and have uninterrupted views. Here, in the Lower Ebro Valley the river cuts its way through several mountain ranges producing some dramatic scenery. Its a perfect base for anglers, birdwatchers, walkers and climbers. If you enjoy sighstseeing there are castles and caves, Roman remains, Gothic and Gaudi architecture and many ancient hill villages to explore. The scenery and rural lifestyle also offer many opportunities for the photographer or artist. This is perfect area to combine a countryside and beach holiday since the quiet beaches of the Southern Costa Dorada are only a 25 minute drive whilst the busier resorts of Cambrils, Salou and Port Aventura are 45 minutes.

Apartment Butterflies occupies the whole of the 2nd floor of a typical Spanish town house. With a floor space of 100 square metres it offers spacious, bright, accommodation for up to 7 people and it is decorated and furnished with all the comforts of home.

There is a large kitchen/dining room with modern units, full size oven and hob and an extensive range of crockery and cooking utensils.

The dining area has patio doors to the balcony overlooking the river. The lounge is tastefully furnished with comfortable sofas and has Sky TV, DVD and CD player.

There is a large family bedroom (17 x 12 feet), with a double bed and a single bed. A cot can be provided if required along with all the bedding, changing mat and potty, free of charge. The 2nd bedroom has 2 single beds and a further 2 people can be accommodated on the sofa-bed in the lounge. (Please note - the calendar below displays availability for this apartment)

Apartment Birds is on the top floor and offers accommodation for up to 4 people. It is equipped and furnished to the same high standards as Apartment Butterflies and has the added benefit of outside terraces - one at the front for dining with a wonderful view over the river and another large private terrace at the rear with sun-loungers and swing seat. There is 1 bedroom with 2 single beds and a double sofa bed in the lounge offering comfortable accommodation for couples or a small family. The Town - Mora d’Ebre itself is a thriving, agricultural town with a population of around 5000. A holiday here is completely different from a holiday in a tourist resort or holiday complex. The town is small enough to retain a strong community feel but big enough to provide all the services you need. It has a surprisingly wide variety of bars, restaurants, supermarkets and stylish shops and Internet café.

Activities

Fishing on the River Ebro - long renowned for its massive catfish, wild carp and other fish our apartments are superbly located to explore this wonderful river. Guided fishing trips are available locally if required or you can fish from the bank directly outside.

Walking/Cycling - This area has a wealth of signposted trails. From flat coastal routes to demanding mountain gradients there is something for all abilities, and wherever you go you will enjoy stunning scenery. Choose from the gentler slopes of the river valley where you can explore numerous hill villages en route and watch farmers at work in the acres of fruit orchards. Or you can tackle the crags and peaks of the surrounding mountains where you may see eagles and vultures soar overhead. Guided walking with information about the geography, history and nature of the surroundings can also be arranged.

Birdwatching and Nature –If you are a nature lover you will delight in the variety of birds to be seen (or heard) in the immediate vicinity of the apartments. The fruit blossom and wild flowers during Spring are a joy to see and of course the river and vegetation also support several species of butterfly, dragon-flies and damsel-flies.
For the serious birder a visit to the Ebro Delta is a must. It is an important breeding ground and migratory stop for up to 300 species of birds – a massive 60% of all the species in Europe. In the nearby mountains of the Priorat region and Els Ports Natural Park there is also rich bird life an abundance of wildflowers and butterflies and even the Spanish Ibex. Guided tours are available.

History and Sightseeing –The city of Tarragona is a World Heritage Site due to its excellent Roman remains. Reus the birthplace of architect Antoni Gaudi has a pleasant shopping centre and Modernist Trail and Barcelona is only 2 hours away by car or train. Locally there are castles and caves, medieval villages and monasteries to explore.

Beaches - A 25 minute drive brings you to the golden beaches of the Costa Dorada where you can choose from deserted coves or pretty fishing ports. For a livelier day out you can visit Salou, Cambrils or the theme park Port Aventura.

Well we came back for the 3rd time for birding in Catalonia! This year we have notched up 180 species. From our base here in Mora birded in the Els Ports, Ebro Delta, Flix, Lleida steppes, Monegros (just into Aragon) and spent a couple of nights in the Pyrenees. The riverfront here in Mora – gave us Scops owl, Red-necked Nightjar, wrynecks, penduline tits, golden orioles, bee-eaters, cettis warbler and nightingale, little bittern and great reed warbler. We love it here! Shame to be leaving – roll on the next time!

Great time again – our second time here. I enjoyed horseriding in the mountains. Mark enjoyed golf with Keith who gave him a few tips. The boys enjoyed a couple of days at Port Aventura. Also had a fishing trip with Bob and caught a 91lb catfish! And we all loved the fiesta – fantastic fireworks and the foam and water party was brill! Thanks Dena and Keith for making us so welcome and a fabulous curry!
