The Apartment in La Azohia
Visit our site for more information. This rental apartment is probably in the very best location on the very front of the El Pinar de San Gines development in La Azohia, probably the most attractive on the Costa Calida, and has uninterrupted panoramic sea views, a large (50m2) private roof terrace, air-conditioning, quality furnishing and fittings (leather sofa, wrought iron beds, dining table and chairs), attractive terracotta tiled flooring, free use of travel cot, buggy and high chair (to save taking it all on the aeroplane), BBQ and a widescreen TV with Sony home cinema system. It is less than 500 metres from La Azohia beach, which is perfect for children as it is of soft sand and some pebbles and shelves very gently. There are 2 communal swimming pools and gardens on the El Pinar de San Gines development, sports and tapas nearby and a wealth of local attractions in La Azohia, Mazarron, Cartagena and further afield on the Costa Calida.
Please note that this is a non-smoking apartment and we do not allow pets.
Costa Calida apartment rental
The Costa Calida is a fairly undiscovered part of south-east Spain. La Azohia is a totally unspoilt idyllic Spanish fishing village on the Costa Calida where tuna is still brought into the quay on a daily basis. It lies at the sheltered end of the large Mazarron bay, just 10 minutes drive away from Mazarron with its wealth of shops and restaurants and 20 minutes drive away from the large town of Cartagena, where Hannibal landed with his elephants. There are no organised tour operators here, and even in the height of the season you will be able to find virtually empty beaches in La Azohia and around the bay of Mazarron. The beaches in this area of the Costa Calida are fantastic - plenty of large, fine sandy beaches (including a number of blue flag beaches) for the perfect beach holiday.
Cheap flights to Murcia and Alicante
There are regular cheap flights to Murcia, San Javier airport (45 minutes’ drive from La Azohia) with Ryanair (from Glasgow Prestwick, Liverpool, London Luton and Stansted and Nottingham East Midlands), Easyjet (from Bristol), Flybe (from Birmingham and Southampton), EUJet (Kent) and jet2.com (Leeds Bradford and Manchester). There are also regular low-cost flights to Alicante (1½ hours’ drive away) with Easyjet (from Belfast, Bristol, Liverpool, London Gatwick, Luton and Stansted, Newcastle and Nottingham East Midlands), BMI (from Heathrow), Flybe (from Birmingham, Exeter and Southampton) so there is always a choice of flights. It is possible to pre-book a local taxi from the airport if you don’t wish to drive.
Activities in and around La Azohia
Rest, relax … there is almost no pace of life here. For the more energetic, there is swimming, windsurfing, diving at all levels (La Azohia is renowned for its amazing diving and has at least 3 diving clubs), sailing, boat cruises, golf, biking, river rafting, tennis. If you need more unwinding, there is a spa at the local 4 star La Azohia hotel. There is a wealth of interesting historical and geographical sites in the area – salt flats and the largest lagoon in Europe at Mar Menor, mineral mines in Mazarron, the oldest submarine in the world, coastal defence batteries, pirate lookouts, Roman and Carthaginian remains at Cartagena, Moorish architecture, Holy Cities, international jazz festivals, rock concerts, fairs. The food is fantastic, the locals are welcoming and the atmosphere in La Azohia is so laid back you can almost hear your heart beating – well, out of season, the birds are the loudest noise.

"The apartment was very tastefully decorated, extremely well-equipped (including a widescreen TV with home cinema system with surround sound, even swimming towels and snorkels!) and beautifully clean with a lovely balcony and roof terrace commanding spectacular views of the sea. We loved it! There was a very helpful information folder in the apartment giving details of the area including local history, where to buy food, bus times, great restaurants and things to do and sights to see: everything to help you to get the most out of your holiday, whether you wanted to explore, be physically active or simply relax. We chose to simply relax, having just finished our finals and found it an ideal place to do so, enjoying sunbathing on the balcony, strolling along the palm tree-lined seafront, swimming in the sea, picnicking on the beach, sampling local restaurant cuisine (the fish is excellent) or our own leisurely dinners on the roof terrace of the apartment looking out at the clean line of the horizon between sky and sea. We would definitely recommend hiring a car as it makes getting from the airport to the apartment easy and enables you to travel around and visit places of interest in the area, if you like to do that sort of thing, e.g. the outdoor Sunday market in the nearby port of Mazarron, the beautiful beaches of Volnuevo, Cartagena etc. The apartment was easy to book and everything met, if not exceeded, our expectations.
