This brand-new 2-bedroom villa is situated on a select urbanization on the edge of an 18-hole golf course and seven minutes from a beautiful sandy
beach (La Barrosa). The attractive garden of 1.200 square meters boasts lawn and swimming pool (8 x 4m). The villa is
surrounded by a secure wall with a lockable gate, ensuring complete privacy and making it safe for children. There is also parking place for several
cars.

The immaculately presented villa is comprised of a lounge/dining room, with open kitchen. In the lounge there is a twin sofa bed, television and DVD player. The kitchen area has a microwave oven/grill, fridge/freezer, washing machine, kettle and toaster. There are two well furnished bedrooms; one with a double bed and the other with twin beds, both having built in wardrobes. The bathroom has a good shower, bath, toilet and hand basin. The villa has a large patio and is furnished with a garden table, four chairs and barbeque. We have a fluent English/Spanish speaking agent who is available should you encounter any problems during your stay.

The villa is situated in the heart of the golf activity, since it is located on the edge of a 18 hole golf course, and 5 minutes away from another two 18 hole golf courses. The stunning 36 hole Severiano Ballesteros designed golf course at Novo Sancti Petri is also some ten minutes’ from the villa. The area is quiet and relaxing. Seven minutes by car you can find several beaches, including the magnificent 8 km sandy beach of La Barrosa, which has been awarded blue flag status for many years. There are numerous bars and restaurants along the beautiful promenade.

It is recommended that you hire a car during your stay as there are numerous places to visit such as the interesting white villages of Vejer and Medina Sidonia, or larger cities such as Seville, Cadiz and Jerez. Donana National Park is also within easy reach, as is Gibraltar, and Tarifa.

Access to the area is easy via a number of airports - the nearest, Jerez, is about 40 minutes drive away, whilst Seville (1 hour), Gibraltar (90 mins) and Malaga (less than 3 hours) and Faro in Portugal (3 hours) are all convenient and are served by a number of different airlines. Travel costs, especially during mid-week or out of high season, can be incredibly cheap if booked well in advance (e.g. return fares by Ryanair to Jerez & Seville for less than £40 return are commonplace).

The area has not suffered from the over-development that characterises some of the other Spanish Costas despite having some of the most spectacular beaches in Spain, backed, not by ribbons of development, but by sand dunes, marshland, farmland and dense pine forests. With an average of 3200 hours of sunshine per year (the highest in Spain) and cooling sea breezes off the Atlantic ocean, it is a haven for holidays at all times of the year.

Between late June and early September, the Costa de la Luz is still largely the preserve of Spanish holidaymakers. Out of high summer season (and except for Easter) there are few tourists, though the weather in Spring and Autumn is often perfect. As part of Chiclana, La Barrosa has a permanent local population which ensures that many of the facilities remain open throughout the year.

La Barrosa, together with nearby Novo Sancti Petri and the town of Chiclana de la Frontera, has all the shops, restaurants, bars cafes and other facilities needed for a family holiday. The ancient and historic city of Cadiz is about 25 km to the north. The increasingly trendy town of Conil De La Frontera is a 15 min drive to the south. Further afield, Seville, Tarifa, Gibraltar and even Tangiers in Morocco are all easily reached on day trips.

Food and Drink - Eating out is a real highlight. The choice locally ranges from beach shacks to haute cuisine. The prices vary accordingly, but generally it is cheap to eat out. There are numerous restauarnts, bars and cafes lining La Barrosa beach road and the promenade. Remember that the Spaniards eat late in the evening - often after 10 at night. Children are always welcome and sharing of plates is normal. Just order something and then order something else. Take a dictionary because not all restaurants have menus in English (though many do). Go where the Spaniards go and enjoy!! La Barrosa itself has a number of good restaurants, cafes and bars, whilst the new ‘urbanisation of Novo Sancti Petri has a large shopping centre with more places to eat and drink. Self-catering is easy with local shops, supermarkets, hypermarkets and even shopping malls all within striking distance.

Exploring - Cadiz is about 20 km to the north. Once Spains most important port, it is a very beautiful and fascinating city. The old part, inner Cadiz, lies on a small peninsula, surrounded by water on 3 sides - literally crumbling due to the effect of the sea on its limestone buildings, it has a tremendous atmosphere. With its grand open squares, narrow alleyways and turreted houses, it remains much as it would have looked in the old days and is great fun to explore - you cant get lost because if you walk in any direction for more than a few minutes you are almost bound to come to the sea. Seville, about 90 minutes drive away, is the major city of the Spanish south - the home of Figaro, Carmen, and Don Juan, it is famed for its monuments, fiestas and the sheer exuberance of its people. Although it can be easily visited in a day, it is worth spending at least a night there (or at least staying till late) to enjoy its restaurants and night life to the full. Gibraltar is worth a visit, especially if you havent been before. Booze and tobacco, though cheap in Spain are even cheaper here as it remains a tax-free zone. Take a cable car to the top of the rock, see the apes and admire the fantastic views. Visit another Continent - Tangiers in Morocco is a short boat or hydrofoil trip away from either Tarifa or Algeciras and makes a pleasant and interesting day trip. A visit to one of the many sherry bodegas is also fun - Tio Pepe in Jerez and Osborne in Puerto Santa Maria are two good ones. Also visit Puerto Santa Maria to enjoy its abundance of excellent fish restaurants which are extremely popular in season and at weekends throughout the year. For a change of scene from La Barrosa, try the equally spectacular beaches at Roche, Conil, El Palmar, Cape Trafalgar (Canos de Meca) and Zahara de los Atunas, all of which are almost deserted for most of the year. Also delight in exploring the inland white villages of Midina Sidonia and Vejer de la Frontera, both within 30 minutes drive of the house.

ACTIVITIES

Golf - There are many excellent golf courses in the area. The superb, 36 hole, Severiano Ballesteros designed course at Novo Sancti Petri is a drive and long iron away from our house. Another, 9 hole course, Campano Golf, is about 5km inland. Club hire, practice facilities and professional tuition (group and / or individual) are available at both courses. The beautiful Montenmedio Golf and Country Club, the exclusive Jack Nicklaus designed Montecastillo Resort course and the Jose Maria Olazabal designed Ballena Golf Club are all within a 30 minutes drive. Further afield, the San Roque Club and the world famous Valderrama, scene of the 1998 Ryder Cup, are about 90mins away on the Mediterranean coast just past Gibraltar.

Tennis - The house is next to the local La Barrosa Tennis Club which boasts 12 all-weather floodlit courts available for public hire.

Swimming - The sea at La Barrosa and at most of the beaches along the coast is shallow and generally very safe for bathing. There are sheltered coves among the cliffs just south of Roche about 10 mins drive away. These coves cater for the naturist fraternity, as does the beach at El Palmar south of Conil. All the beaches on the coast have a Blue Flag for cleanliness and hygiene.

Surfing - With the constant Atlantic rollers, the area is excellent for surfing with both Malibu and boogey boards available for hire locally. Tarifa, about 45 mins drive south, is a windsurfing and kite-surfing Mecca. Closer by, Canos de Meca near Cape Trafalgar is also a popular venue for all types of surfing when the conditions are right.

Fishing/Angling - Fishing, from boat , beach, and rocky headlands, is on the doorstep; fresh water fishing is available on a number of lakes inland.

Horseriding - Horseriding is a popular pastime in Andalucia. Horses can be rented locally for riding in the extensive woodland trails and on the beach. Jerez has a strong equestrian tradition and the nearby Montenmedio Golf & Country Club hosts international horse trials and has extensive facilities for the horse-loving visitor to enjoy.

Walking / Bird Watching / Nature Parks- The coast and hinterland provide great walking country. Much of the area is protected by local laws to prevent over-development and retain the natural environment for public enjoyment. The famous Coto Donana National Park is Europes largest wildlife sanctuary and is accessible by boat from Sanlucar de Barrameda north of Cadiz. It is crossed by large numbers of migrating birds. La Janda, a wetland north-west of Tarifa, is home to visiting cranes in great numbers. Other local species include Griffin Vultures, Eagles, White Storks, Flamingoes and Egrets. Dolphin and whale watching boat trips in the Straits of Gibraltar can be made from Tarifa and Algeciras. Closer to home and inland you can explore the whitewashed hilltop towns of Vejer and Medina Sidonia. The latter is evidence of Roman occupation and Roman excavations can be explored at Bolonia just north of Tarifa.
