Description: |
Calle de Mar 20 is a comfortable three bedroomed house in the typical Spanish village of Gualchos. The house has been furnished in a traditional manner in an attempt to maintain its rustic charm. There is a reception/dining room as you enter the house, this is cool in the summer and cosy in the winter.You then encounter a fitted kitchen with all the neccessary facilities for food preparation and cooking. Stairs take you to a comfortable lounge/sitting room with settees, dvd/tv/video and open fireplace.The first bedroom has 1 double bed, the second a single bed and the third a double and a single bed. You leave by another door to the bathroom/toilet and here you cannot but notice our distinctive spiral staircase that leads to the roof terraces. The first is small with a view of the sea and the second is spacious with a wooden Pergola for shade in the heat, again with stunning views of the Mediterranean and the surrounding hills. There are electric and butano heaters or you may wish to burn a wood fire in the fireplace. Bedlinen and tea-towels are provided but not bath/beach towels.
Gualchos is a working Spanish village that has retained much of its traditional charm despite some tourism and recent developments. Life still revolves around the main tree-lined plaza below the church with bells ringing. There are 2 bars, 2 restaurants, La Ventera and the less sophisticated Alberro. There is also Barbacoa Miguel-open in the summer and an ice-cream parlour. The small but well stocked supermarket can serve most of your immediate needs and there is a small fish market. A 10 minute drive to the coast will take you to Castell-de-ferro- a small but fast growing town. Here are numerous bars, restaurants, supermarkets, banks, post-office, shops etc. The closest beaches are here but if you drive 10-15 minutes east or west of Castell you can find more beaches with snorkelling and scuba diving possibilities. A 30 minute drive over the top road takes you to Motril, a large town with many restaurants-Italian and Chinese- shops, hypermarkets, cinemas, banks, museums etc.
Gualchos has much to offer for those who like to walk or cycle. A five minute wander takes you to almond and olive groves where you can observe the flora, fauna and birdlife. Futher on at Pico Aquilla you may be lucky enough to spot an eagle hovering above and in the hills it is not uncommon to encounter the Ibex mountain goat. Granada and the Alhambra are just over an hour away. The villages of the Albujarra, Orgiva, Bubion etc can be easily reached as can the Contraviessa, Cadiar and Yegen. This area of Granada still holds many discoveries it depends on how far you wish to drive for. However, you may prefer to stay in Gualchos and enjoy the tranquility sitting on our terrace, you do not need to leave the village although car hire is essential to get there. Gualchos is 1 hour from Almeria airport, 1.5 hours from Granada airport and 2 hours from Malaga airport. New road improvements will mean this journey time is less in the coming months.
