La Posada Puente forms part of a heritage site in the town of Puente Viesgo, just 28 km from Santander and close to the Pas towns of Santillana del Mar and Carbárceno. It lies in a beautiful nature spot close to the river Pas and the prehistoric caves of Puente Viesgo in an area known as Valles Pasiegos (the Pas valleys).

Mount "El Castillo" in Puente Viesgo is the location of the most significant Palaeolithic heritage site in Europe, consisting of the caves of El Castillo, Las Monedas, La Pasiega and Las Chimeneas. A modern interpretation centre provides an enjoyable and educational insight into prehistory.
Aside from the river Pas, the capital of the municipality also offers the best salmon fishing preserves in Cantabria. You can access the pool area down a small stairway and along a path carved out of the rock.
