2- bedroomed holiday apartment to let in Jerez de la Frontera (Casco Antiguo).

Description:

The apartment is situated in the centre of town in a quiet street ,just off the main square. The building is new but it is built in the style of a typical Andalusian house , centring on a patio with arches around it.Everything – shops , wineries, monuments, bars and restaurants – is within walking distance; in fact, the most important church in Jerez backs onto the building.

The apartment consists of the following rooms:

Large sitting / dining room with two sofas ,digital tv and dvd , comfortable dining area , large windows .

Smallish but modern kitchen , fully equipped. Store cupboard basics and cleaning products are supplied.

Double bedroom with large built–in wardrobe .

Second twin - bedded room also with built-in wardrobe.

Bathroom with shower and full length bath .

There are wood floors throughout and the flat has double- glazing in all windows.

THE CITY OF JEREZ .

Situated in the south-west of Spain, between Seville and Cadiz, Jerez is the place for you if you want to experience the real Spain without sacrificing the convenience of modern life. If you are tired of the English pubs of the Costa del Sol but don’t fancy languishing in a draughty farmhouse on a mountain-top, try Jerez.
Jerez is a medium–sized city, full of attractions for the visitor but which retains its essentially Spanish character. First of all, of course, it’s the home of sherry, and a visit to at least one of the local bodegas (wineries) is a must. Visits always end in a tasting session, possibly accompanied by a tapa. Jerez is also famous for its horses, so equestrian enthusiasts can visit the Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art to see the famous dancing horses, or the prestigious stud, Hierro del Bocado, to see a very different, much more spontaneous show with mares and their foals running free,
The city’s third claim to fame is flamenco: Jerez is reputed to be the birthplace of flamenco and many of Spain’s top singers and dancers are Jerezanos. In Spring there is an internationally famous flamenco festival which attracts followers from all over the world. There are also restaurants where you can dine and watch flamenco shows, and “peñas flamencas” – private flamenco clubs where admission is free and you can have a drink and, if you’re lucky, see local gypsies singing and dancing just for their own pleasure.

But apart from all these obvious tourist attractions, the most attractive aspect of Jerez is simply its daily life – the endless tapas bars which offer all kinds of fare from basic home–cooking to nouvelle cuisine, the squares with palm trees and fountains, the narrow streets and surprising hidden gardens of the old town, the hospitality of the people … the fact that you don’t really have to do anything to enjoy life here.

VISITS

As well as the equestrian centres and the wineries mentioned above, you can visit the Cathedral and the many beautiful churches in the town centre, the Alcazar (Moorish castle) with its gardens and the Camara Obscura, various museums, a very prestigious zoo- and, of course, the shops! Help will be given with making phone bookings if necessary.

OUTSIDE JEREZ

Jerez has excellent communications by road, train and bus . El Puerto de Santa María, 15 minutes away, has long golden beaches; Cádiz(20mins) is the oldest city in the Western world, and Seville, famous for its beauty, is only an hour away. It is also easy to drive into the mountains to yisit the white towns such as Arcos de la Frontera or Grazalema.

FESTIVALS

Flamenco festival (in spring) – consisting of a series of concerts and dance shows in the splendid Villamarta Theatre and other smaller venues, as well as dancing classes imparted by recognised flamenco artists.

Semana Santa (Holy Week)

A week of spectacular religious processions when images of the Virgin and Christ are carried round the city for hours, accompanied by marching bands or in sepulchral silence. Also plenty of eating and drinking. Comfortable shoes are a must. Spanish families wear their best clothes on the Thursday and Friday and many women wear mantillas.

Motorcycling G.P.

This takes place in spring and Jerez is invaded by bikers for three days. For bike-lovers only!

Horse Fair (Feria del Caballo)

An orgy of eating, drinking, singing, and dancing which takes place in May. Go during the day to see the horses and carriages and the women in their beautiful flamenco dresses or feast your eyes on the millions (yes, really) of coloured lights which illuminate the fair all night. But pace yourself – it’s easy to go into the fair but very difficult to leave!

Autumn Festival

This is an agglomeration of different events – exhibitions, a mediaeval market, flamenco in the squares, a horse parade, a tapas competition… - a little of everything – Takes place in September.

GOLF
Jerez is becoming increasingly popular as a golfing destination, and there are two excellent courses within easy reach of the apartment; Sherry Golf is approximately 6 kms from the flat and is very easily accessible as it is on the coast road on the same side of town as the apartment. The other is Montecastillo, which is near the motor-racing circuit, also easy to reach, as it isn't necessary to go through the city centre to get there, but a little further out - about 11 kms.

More about Mary Joplin

I've been living in Jerez since 1979, having arrived with the idea of spending a year here. I'm a busy language teacher and I've been renting my holiday apartment for around six years. The rental business has been unexpectedly rewarding, as I've had guests from many countries, several of whom are now friends and regular visitors, including opera singers, sports people, teachers, actors and any number of other has been an enriching experience so far, which I hope will continue.

Alec & Trudy

The owner was most helpful from start to finish. A lovely lady for whom nothing was too much trouble. This by far the nicest appartment we have stayed in Jerez. It is in easy walking distance to all the shops and restaurants but situated in a quiet residential area. We will return.
Owner comment
Thank you so much, Alec and Trudy. It was lovely to meet you and I'm very glad you enjoyed your short "exile" in Jerez. It's always a pleasure to look after my guests. I really look forward to seeing you again.

Lovely flat right in the centre of Jerez

This is a lovely flat right in the centre of Jerez. The lounge /dining area and bedrooms are very comfortable, the kitchen well equipped and Mary provides a good range number of basic store cupboard items to make you feel welcome right from the start of your stay,as well as information about what to do in the area.Mary provided excellent directions both in and out of the city and was there to welcome us on arrival.Everything was spotlessly clean and instructions provided for all the electrical gadgets.Being able to use the internet was also very useful. The whole flat is very tastefully decorated. This was the first time I had visited Jerez for over 30 years and although the city has grown it retains its traditional charm with the cathedral, alcazar and old quarter as well as one of the main bodegas within a few minutes' walk. There are many bars and restaurants again within minutes on foot. Parking is in a secure garage with direct access via lift to the flat-though might be a little 'tight' for a large car.Once parked you do not need a car in central Jerez as everything is so close and there are good public transport links by bus and train to Seville,Cadiz and a number of other places. I would highly recommend this property for couples or a family with older children
Owner comment
Thanks very much for your lovely comments, Sara. It's nice to know one's efforts are appreciated and it's a pleasure to meet families like yours. I hope to see you back here before long. Mary

Winter Stay

This apartment is ideal for anyone looking for comfortable home from home accommodation away from the British winter. Unlike many holiday apartments, it is fully equipped and furnished with the long stay in mind. Centrally situated, it gives immediate pedestrian access to all the attractions, shops and amenities of Jerez. The historical centre is ideal for strolls as cars and buses are mostly diverted to the periphery. Mary gives a warm welcome to her guests and is very much aware of their needs. Living locally, she is at hand at all times to help with requests or indeed to make her own suggestions to enhance the enjoyment of the stay. We have no hesitation in highly recommending this apartment.
Owner comment
Thank you so much. It was a pleasure to meet you both and you took such an active part in life here that you should be made honorary Jerezanos! It's lovely to meet people who take full advantage of everything on offer.I hope to see you again some time.

Very happy

The owner is a lovely friendly lady, really helpful and quick to reply to any queries. The apartment itself is in a great central location about two minutes walk from Plaza Arenal and actually far better than I expected, the photos do not do it justice. Nice, modern and everything you need for a comfortable stay.
Owner comment
Thanks Fleeta, I'm delighted to hear you were comfortable in the apartment; my aim is that people should feel at home and enjoy Jerez to the full. I think I'd better take some more photos!

Lived up to our expectations... and more.....

We are a retired couple from London and we enjoyed our stay here very much and everything lived up to our expectations. Our host, Mary Joplin, was most helpful and kind. Some lovely welcoming touches on our arrival. The apartment is stocked with all the kitchen and household basics which is great; the accommodation is very comfortable and in a great location. A car is not necessary. Jerez is a lovely city to explore.
Owner comment
Thanks very much for your opinion, Lynda. It's lovely to know you enjoyed both Jerez and the apartment. Jerez isn't a typical tourist destination, but it's warm and welcoming and you can see everything without the rush and stress of bigger cities. Hope to see you again!

In every aspect okay

We met a wonderfull and nice lady in the appartement who showed us around in a nice appartment. Even the base products in the kitchen were there! We spend a very nice time in Jerez, the town is nice, the people friendly and the terrases invite you to drink and eat outside. We went one day to Cadiz, that was worth the effort too. We will come again to Jerez and this appartment!

A home from home in Jerez

We stayed in this apartment for a month in January-February 2011. We wanted to get away from the English winter, but go somewhere that was not a holiday resort and where we could see a little of the "real life" of the area. Jerez de la Frontera was exactly the right location for us - plenty to see and do in the town and surrounding area, but not full of tourist shops at tourist prices. The apartment is in the old part of the town, less than 5 minutes from the main square, so it is possible to walk to most of the attractions. The underground car park would be tight for a large car, but Mary, the owner, had given us plenty of warning about this. We were glad of the car to be able to drive out to golf and places like Ronda and the Grazalema, but were able to get the train to Sevilla and Cadiz. The flat is well equipped and comfortable for a stay of this length, with plenty of seating and a good kitchen, and Mary was very quick to make sure we had everything we needed. The internet connection was a particular boon. Mary was also very helpful in letting us know about any special events happening in the town, which we would otherwise have missed. All in all, we had a marvellous stay in a very comfortable flat and would not hesitate to recommend it.
Owner comment
Thanks for your kind comments, Sue. It was a real pleasure to meet you and to have you as guests in my apartment. I felt you really got the most out of your stay and took advantage of what the province of Cádiz has to offer. I do hope to see you again some time - you know you'd be very welcome.
