Need a place to relax and unwind in an atmosphere of total relaxation while admiring the breathtaking views? Need an unspoilt child friendly beach to take the kids? If the answers are YES, then La Azohia is the place for you.
LA AZOHIA
La Azohia is a sleepy fishing village lying at the sheltered Eastern end of Mazarron Bay on the Costa Calida. Our apartment Endless Summer Spain is on the 1st floor at the front of the El Pinar de San Gines (The Pines) development, a tasteful complex of newly built ground and first floor apartments nestling unobtrusively into the hills behind it. The apartment has arguably the finest views from the complex of the stunning Bay, stretching from the pirate lookout of St Helena’s tower on the cliffs to the left to the bright lights of Puerto de Mazarron and beyond towards Almeria to the right and of course the mountains behind.
Here the pace of life is slow with a capital S, tranquillity and relaxation are the order of the day with the sweet smell of the surrounding pine trees floating on the breeze. The most energetic part of your holiday could be the 500m stroll to the unspoilt beach with its gently shelving, child friendly, shoreline and crystal clear waters or you could just choose to relax by the communal pool just meters from the front door.
THE APARTMENT
The apartment itself comprises a living/dining room with a 3 seater and 2 seater sofas as well as a table that can expand to seat 8, a well equipped kitchen, 2 bedrooms (one double and one twin) sleeping 4 and a bathroom, all attractively furnished. The apartment is air-conditioned with all modern whims catered for including Satellite TV, DVD player, dishwasher, microwave, coffee machine etc. A pack up describing all the appliances in the apartment and a local information guide are also provided together with a selection of books on Spain covering topics such as history, wine, cooking and also some Spanish phrase books to help you when you venture out.
The “piece de résistance” of the apartment is undoubtedly the large roof terrace easily accessible through the kitchen which is complete with sun lounges, a pergola with adjustable awning a table and 6 chairs so that you and some friends can enjoy eating and drinking in the open air whilst admiring the view, shaded from the worst of the sun’s heat.
Endless Summer Spain is twinned with the next door 1st floor apartment H91, Que Vista, also advertised on Spain Holiday (Ref 1930). So if you’re looking to holiday with friends or another family why not book both apartments, thereby allowing you to share the La Azohia experience together. Of course if Endless Summer Spain is also booked for the time you wish to travel our sister apartment is the recommended alternative.
GETTING THERE
Several companies fly to Alicante (1 ½ hours’ drive from La Azohia) or Murcia, San Javier (45 minutes’ drive from La Azohia), so there is always a choice of flights. These include:
Ryanair - regular low cost flights to Murcia from Glasgow (Prestwick), Liverpool, London (Luton), London (Stansted) and Nottingham (East Midlands).
Easyjet - regular scheduled services to Murcia from Bristol. Also offer flights to Alicante from Belfast, Bristol, Liverpool, London (Gatwick, Luton and Stansted), Newcastle, Nottingham (East Midlands).
Flybe - regular cheap flights to Murcia and Alicante from Birmingham, Southampton. Also offer flights to Alicante from Exeter.
EUJet - regular cheap flights to Murcia from Kent.
Jet2 - regular flights to Murcia from Leeds Bradford, Manchester
Car hire is notoriously cheap in Spain, but for those who do not wish to drive, it is possible to pre-book a local taxi from the airport using information available on this site once booking has been made.
ACTIVITIES
Rest, relax, unwind … there is almost no pace of life in La Azohia. However, for those that would like even more pampering, the local 4 star La Azohia Hotel can provide a gym, spa and beauty parlour on request. If you are looking for a night out in La Azohia there are bars and restaurants to catch a drink or a meal, serving local cuisine, or The Pines Grill on the El Pinar site itself with a bar and providing more traditionally English faire. Of special note in the village is the Antipodas bar on the high ground behind the harbour which is an excellent place to watch the sun go down, whilst 10 minutes by car or taxi takes you to Puerto de Mazarron which is a lively tourist destination with all the nightlife you would expect.
For the energetic visitor, there is all year round swimming in the sea where the temperature rarely goes below 20ºC, windsurfing, sailing, boat cruises, golf, walking, biking, river rafting and tennis in the local area. La Azohia also boasts some of the best scuba diving in Spain at the base of the cliffs of the Cabo Tinoso and there are a number of dive operators in the village. Of these the Rive Mar Dive Centre has the best website rivemar.com which describes the individual dive sites in detail with some excellent pictures, whereas the Antipodas Dive Centre has the best après dive facilities!
Further a field; there is a wealth of interesting historical and geographical sites on the Costa Calida and elsewhere within the province of Murcia. Just 20 minutes drive away is the town of Cartagena, where Hannibal set off for Rome with his elephants with its Roman and Carthaginian remains, Moorish architecture, International Jazz festivals, rock concerts and fairs as well as the oldest submarine in the world on display in the port. Close by is the Mar Minor the largest lagoon in Europe and the popular resort of La Manga.
The food is fantastic, the locals are welcoming and the atmosphere is so laid back you cannot fail to end your vacation relaxed and refreshed, and keen to return.

Gregory says: "Fabulous place to get away from it all. We where in trepidation of spain in high season, but even at the very busiest time of the year, this place was so laid back and relaxed. Wed expected a tiny fishing village, so no great expectation for food, but we actually had some fantastic meals. Vegetables in the Antipodean, Lobster Paella in the Piscoli, really quality food! The guide book in the apartment was really helpful feature, having Pamela on hand for any mishaps was really helpful, having a bar on site was great, convenient without being noisy. If I had to gripe, while the distance to the beach is short, its the best part of a mile to the real town. Having said that, given the choice of a place in town without direct sea views, and a pleasant stroll on the seafront back to the roof terrace and the most fabulous views, Ill take the stroll every time. If you;re looking for a truly relaxing holiday in spain, then this is your location. We brought friends who live in Spain to visit, and they reckon it;s the best place they have found to unwind and plan to return. Making endless summers one of the very best accomodations in one of the very best towns if you want rest and relaxation. "(Aug 06)
