Description: |
La Casita is situated on the terrains of a 200 year old Cortijo, La Huertecilla, near the town of Villanueva del Trabuco.
It consists of a living room with open kitchen, a parents bedroom with adjoining bathroom. Upstairs you will find a smaller bedroom, suitable for 2 children. For a very young child a cot can be arranged at no extra cost if the total of family members doesnt add up to more than 4. All beds are European size, 90x200 cm and are covered by duvets. Bedlinen is provided once a week, towels (2 small and 1 big per person) twice a week.
La Casita has been built to stay cool during the summer and to be easily heated during the winter.
The kitchen is equipped with a gas furnace and oven, fridge, blender, coffeemaker, water heater and of course, pots and pans, cutlery and earthenware for 4 persons. Dont bother packing herbs for cooking - we stocked the kitchen with a variety of herbs, coffee, tea, sugar etc. We only ask you to replace things as you would at home... so just before you run out of it.
Although the village is quite near by, at just 1,5 km, the cortijo’s surroundings are completely rural. If you like tranquillity, the sound of singing birds, the bells of the neighbour’s goats and star-filled skies to look up to at night, you’ll like it at la Casita.
If furthermore, you and your family are non-smokers and willing to respect and live by our “Set of Rules” during your stay, you’re more than welcome!
Highlights from this “Set of Rules”:
La Huertecilla and La Casita are strictly non-smoking areas. In the summermonths smoking in the open on the remaining terrains of the cortijo is not permitted either, for risk of fire.
Lots of animals at La Huertecilla, amongst which 6 horses, goats, pigs, chicken, rabbits, cats and dogs.
With all the animals already present on the farm, guests are not allowed to bring their pets.
We treasure the tranquillity of our surroundings and therefore La Casita is not equipped with stereo sound equipment. You will find a small TV and DVD-player and several video-DVD rental stores in town offer a wide range of movies to rent.
We try to live in harmony with our environment, limiting waste as much as possible.
We tend to a completely organic veggie plot with lots of summer fruits as well. We bake our own bread for which we use certified organic grains that we grind in our own little mill. We produce all sorts of lactic products with the milk of our own goats. We collect the eggs that our chicken lay and once in a while we slaughter a rabbit or a kid goat.
Lots of these products are sold to individuals in the village and of course we offer you the possibility to buy them as well… depending on availability of course.
As water is scarce in Andalucia, we have chosen not to build a pool, but make use of the public pool, which is very nearby, hardly ever crowded and of excellent quality. Safe for small kids as well, there is a life guard on permanent duty. It is open during the summer months and sports a terrific restaurant as well!
3 more restaurants at walking distance and the village itself hosts another 6 or 7 places where the food is good. Especially during the summermonths, when all village life takes place out of doors.
Villanueva del Trabuco is situated just behind the mountain ridge at Las Pedrizas, which means that the climate is quite different from the seaclimate at the coast. High temperatures during the day in the summermonths and quite a drop in temperature when the sun is down, which allows for comfortable nights.
But if you like the beachlife: make the best of both climates: spend your days at the beach, at only an hours’drive away, and return to a cool nights’ sleep at La Casita!
For culture-lovers: the best kept secret of Andalucía is the town of Antequera at only a 20 minutes drive. Already old in the days of the Romans, with a lovely museum and lots of sites of historic importance to visit. On the outskirts of Antequera you will find a large shopping centre too and for hiking enthusiasts there is the Torcal Nature Reserve with its imposing rock formations.
Granada, with the Alhambra, the Albaicin and the Cathedral, for us, comes ‘only’ second on the list of cultural ‘must have seens’. There’s no denying its attraction to tourists of course and a visit will be very worth your while.
And if you like to ski… the Granadian Sierra Nevada is only an hours drive away as well!
Visit the Flamencos at Fuente de Piedra at appr. an hours’ drive or the caves at Nerja, on the coast. Archidona, at only 10 minutes from Trabuco, is worth a visit too... lovely square, ancient Monastery and a big supermarket.
If you are a golfer: the golf court of Antequera is becoming quite well-known and our neighbouring village Villanueva del Rosario is very busy developing their own golf court. On the coast you will find a fine choice of courts as well.
For the religious experience, or for the spectacular sights, Semana Santa (Easter Week) which is celebrated in the week before Easter Sunday. Every town and city has its processions, most take place on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Keep your thumbs crossed for good weather!
If you like to hike on horseback or would like to learn how to ride, just 5 minutes up the road an English family offers all kinds of activities on horseback. Our own horses are just for private use.
For nice long walks through the beautiful countryside where olive groves are found next to fields sown with wheat or barley, you can start right at the cortijo to find yourself on a network of unpaved roads that lead you to a series of hamlets surrounding the village of Villanueva del Trabuco.
If you are looking for adventure: in the towns surrounding Trabuco you will find several enterprises that offer paragliding, 4x4, Quad or motorbike facilities.
