Description: |
Mas Nou is a totally renovated, traditional 18th century stone masia set on 10 hectares (24 acres) of gardens, woodland, pastures and meadows. It is very peaceful and secluded but very accessible. It is situated between the bustling small town of Figueres (16kms) and the stunning medieval village of Besalu (10kms). The one hectare garden is fully fenced and has mature hedges and shrubs and several magnificent old holm oak trees providing shade. The swimming pool is behind the house and there are two paved terraces adjoining the house and the pool area is extensive and tiled. There is a wood fired barbeque and plenty of outdoor seating.The views from the garden are picturesque and it is an idyllic rural retreat, yet ideal for day trips to the sea, mountains and places of historic interest which are all close by. Although Mas Nou is in a tiny hamlet of scattered houses, with no very close neighbours, it is walking distance from Mas Cucut a well known restaurant which serves Catalan cuisine.
Mas Nou is very conveniently situated a 40 minute drive from Girona airport which is served by Ryanair which flies to many major European destinations and a 90 minute drive from Barcelona El Prat airport. It is also very conveniently situated for guests travelling from other parts of Europe by car, being close to the AP 7 motorway and the French border. The nearby village of Besalu is a sensational medieval village with a famous Romanesque bridge, Figueres is a twenty minute drive and is the birth place of the famous artist Salvador Dali and home to his incredible museum. The Costa Brava coast is only 35 kms away offering amongst others, the choice of Rosas with its full programmes of sporting and leisure activities including the famous Aquapark water park, traditional fishing towns such as LEscala and Llanca. the spectacular Empuriabrava with its system of canals and vast marina, and picturesque coastal villages such as San Pedro del Pescador and San Marti, also the many tiny secluded bays in the National Park of the Cap de Creus.
Also close by is the golf course of Torremirona (a ten minute drive from Mas Nou) and horse riding and tennis. There is spectacular walking right from the door of the house, through the surrounding fields and woods.
There is a very large supermarket (open from 9.00am - 21.00am Mon - Sat) on the outskirts of Figueres which also has a wonderful, vibrant outdoor vegetable and fruit market and every kind of shop. Besalu also has a market and a range of shops from bakers to delicatessans.
There is an excellent train service from Figueres to Girona (a spectacular medieval city) and Barcelona and many of our guests include a day trip to the city in their stay.
Mas Nou comprises upstairs: three bedrooms each with a double bed, one with an ensuite bathroom and a separate bathroom. All the rooms lead off a small library. Downstairs there is a sitting room, kitchen, dining room, games room (with pool table and dart board), the fourth bedroom with adjoining bathroom, and a separate utility room with washing machine. The fourth bathroom is outside by the swimming pool. If required there are two single beds available for children and a cot.
