Description: |
El Romeral is a family run restaurant/ casa rural in the heart of the Valencian mountains, nestled amongst orange groves and situated on the edge of a national park. Green and lush, we enjoy the best of all worlds - pure mountain air and spring water from the local font, the best Valencian traditional cooking, cooked by masters with over 50 years experience, live music on chosen events and local village music shows, a friendly bar and of course tranquility when you stay with us in one of our eight poolside guest bedrooms.
If you love the countryside, then weve got it all here for you - many published walks abound, cycling (road and mountain biking) and rock climbing can be found in abundance here. Horse riding enthusiasts and quad bikers are also catered for as are the tranquility-seekers. For those wanting a bit of pizazz, fear not! were only 60 minutes from Benidorm and water parks galore - were even 2.5 hrs. from skiing resorts too, so it really doesnt get any better if you want variety.
Locally, we are just 20 minutes from several award winning beaches, shopping malls galore, cinema and bowling you certainly wont be disappointed in terms of entertainment factor!
Come Spring/Summer 2008 we will be introducing a new childrens play area which will hopefully keep them entertained for a while or if you want to have some time off we can arrange babysitters (additional cost - local basic rate 7e per hr)) if youre staying with us. Of course, the rooms are right next to the pool area so in the evenings when its quiet and you are eating your home-cooked fish, meats or paella, you can see your room poolside easily!
The best the region has to offer - theres good reason the Spanish travel 50 miles to eat at our restaurant and spend the day by the pool - not to mention the local ex -pat community and the Madrellenos (Madrid) - why not ask them when youre here!
Come visit us - youll be glad you did!
Typically across Spain you will find Casa Rurals (Hostal Rurals) - usually a Restaurant/Bar with rooms. El Romeral is different in that our rooms are all poolside with en-suite facilities separate from the restaurant/bar area.
El Romeral consists of 8 en suite bedrooms (chalets) outside around a pool. There are 7 double bedrooms and 1 family room which consists of 1 x double bedroom with en suite and a separate bedroom with 2 x single beds with connecting door to master bedroom.
Each double room has either 2 twin beds or a king size double bed and our family room has a king size double bed with en-suite and a separate room with 2 single beds.
Weekends are exceptionally busy, with "local" visitors from Ontinyent (50 miles away) and beyond, booking in advance to enjoy home-cooked traditional Paellas in the traditional way. Our chefs have on average over 50 years experience each cooking Paellas, using only the finest locally sourced ingredients.
The rice is grown locally in the Cullera valley, the meats are from local free-range farms, spices grown in the village itself and the water used in the rice from our very own font - pure, sand-filters and straight out of the mountain. Pure extra virgin olive oil, pressed from Oilves grown in the farms around the village are also used also add that something special. Theres good reason were packed with Spanish families at the weekends - make sure you book in advance and dont forget, a traditional Paella takes about and hour and a half to cook !
We have a varied range of local dishes, from Fideuas, roasted lambs, grilled steaks and fish Tapas and vegetarian options - you can pop in and eat from our bar menu outside of main meal times too - relax with a glass of local wine or a vintage Rioja and snack on Sepia (cuttlefish), boquerones (sardines in extra virgin olive oil and vinaigrette) or russian salad - the list is endless - - Fresh and cooked to order.
Our local village - Barx & La Drova No ordinary village...
La Drova is part of Barx (pronounced "barch") in the heart of the Valencian mountains just 20 minutes from the beach and Gandia - our main town with 80,000 population and growing fast!
Barx is renown for its beauty and tranquility (except for fiestas of course). over 700 years ago, the monks used to come to La Drova and Barx for rest and recovery - the air is pure as is the water from the Font. Indeed, the water from the Font - straight out of the mountain, no additives, no filtering (other than a sand filter) is said to be the purest water to be found anywhere in the world and responsible for all sorts of miracle cures and health benefits! (having said that, it was a claim made 700 years ago by local monks!) However, we all drink it and its better than any other bottled mineral water weve ever had!
Fiestas aside (and theres plenty of them throughout the year) Barx is a normal Spanish working village. Dont worry if you cant speak Spanish - the locals are welcoming with open arms even if all you know is "cafe con leche" or Por favor!
Barx and La Drova have a hectic social calender throughout the year - indeed, every 6 weeks or so out of season there is a fiesta of some sort, usually accompanied by fireworks and lots of live music. In August, Barx and La Dova have their fiestas. If you havent experienced a genuine village fiesta before, then youre in for a treat - just dont expect to go to bed early!
