There are many local festivals, and always something going on from weekly street markets to processions, music and dancing. With its restaurants, cafés and bars, as well as shops selling wine, antiques, ceramics and local honey, Cómpeta is an ideal base for walking in the mountains, sightseeing, travelling inland to Granada and the lake district, or taking trips further afield to the likes of Ronda, Cordoba or Seville. In the summer you might want to laze on the beach and in the winter take your skis to the slopes of the Sierra Nevada. The villages is close to Canillas de Albaida and there are a number of walks that can be followed between the two villages, Both villages have supermarkets and shops selling local art, jewellery and much more. Why not enjoy a drink or a meal in one of the many restaurants that are around the area, each serving a mixture of tapas and local recipes. The many fine coastal areas and resorts such as Nerja, Torrox Costa, Torre Del Mar and Malaga are all close by car or public bus. It is also good to walk around the historic Moorish church (recently restored) as this is one of the many attractions within the village, the views from the bell tower are breath taking. Not to mention just enjoying the Spanish way of life!
