Our traditional Cortijo is over two hundred years old and lovingly renovated in the traditional Andalucian style retaining the features and feeling of this beautiful comfortable home to help you unwind and relax. Traditional heavy doors, wooden shutters, hand made tiled floors and beamed ceilings throughout are part of the unique character and charm of this spacious and special hideaway retreat. The interior has been professionally designed with particular attention to detail.
The Cortijo is set within 18,000 metres of land and the gardens are stunning and extensive with the smell of orange blossom and jasmin in the air. There are panoramic mountain and countryside views of olive and almond trees. The large secluded swimming pool sits naturally in the landscape within the garden where there are many different areas to sit and enjoy the views.
The Cortijo is five minutes drive from the pretty white washed pueblo of Riogordo. This village is typically Andalucian with its narrow winding streets and small tapas bars. There is a selection of small shops including a mini market which sells freshly baked bread every day, a pharmacy, two butchers, a fishmonger, a weekly market, a shop for stamps, a Post Office and two banks. The 24 hour Health Centre is situated in the next village of Colmenar.
La Axarquia area is a designated area of outstanding beauty surrounded by National parks, a well kept secret between the mediterranean and the Sierras. The area is beautiful any time of the year, in the winter there is snow on the mountains, in Spring the almond blossom makes a pink rash across the countryside, in sizzling Summer there are festivals and beach fun, in the Autumn there are places to explore and in Winter there is the Spanish Christmas and skiing. All year the bird life is huge and you can visit the Flamingo Lake nearby. Children love the Wolf Park where you can take a picnic or further afield at the Marine Park and the Zoo. There is an Acqua Park on the way to the coast.
Everyone delights in the rock formations at El Torcal. It has spectacular scenery and you can watch the Griffon Vultures flying. Outdoor pursuits are endless including tennis, horse-riding, mountain biking etc are available 3kms away at the local Villa Turistica. You can even go quad biking locally or learn to mask and snorkel. The sub tropical temperatures are always manageable.
As you walk in the countryside, the different smells of wild fennel, lavender and thyme fill the air. The goats come to graze nearby and you can hear their bells.
The nearest beach is Torre del Mar which is about half an hours drive. On the way you pass by Velez Malaga where there is a shopping Complex called El Ingenio. The beach at Torre del Mar is sandy with a long promenade with ice-cream parlours, cafes and some wonderful seafood restaurants and little restaurants right on the beach called Chirinquitos. There is a market here every Thursday where they sell everything from fruit and vegetables to clothes, shoes, ceramics, jewellery, sunglasses, CD's, flowers, olives, nuts, olive oil and things for the home.
If you run along the coast you reach Nerja. It is a very pretty resort with smaller beaches surrounded by cliffs and little sandy coves and beachside walks. You can park in the town and then walk through the windy streets to the famous Balcon de Europa which overlooks the Mediterranean and the little beaches.
Travelling further along the coast you can drop down to the most wonderful secluded little beaches which are rarely busy and take a picnic, start in Maro and then head towards La Herradura.
You can be as relaxed or as busy as suits you. Whether you are a family, couples, friends or on busines.
Excellent roads are easily accessible to visit Granada (1 hour),Antequera (30 minutes), Ronda and Gibralter (2 hours), Lake Vinuela (10 minutes) and Nerja (45 minutes). You can even take the AVE train Madrid for a day. Malaga is a wonderful city, visit the Picasso museum, the wonderful tapas bars in the Centro Historico, the moorish architecture of Cordoba in the Mezquita, the hot springs at Alhama de Granada, the lake at Beremejales and the gorgeous scenery at El Chorro Gorge.
