Ecija was founded by the Greek Astur, origin of its name.

In ancient times, the Roman period, was one of the peak, becoming the "Colonia Augusta Firma ", being the capital of a legal convent of Andalusia.

In Visigothic stage was set a great cultural and religious focus. San Fulgencio was appointed bishop of Ecija Santa Florentina and her sister founded the Convento del Valle, the first community of women founded in Andalucia.
