El Refugio is a self contained personal oasis set amongst private gardens nestling just inland amongst the hills of Alicante.
A short drive inland from Alicante City and Coast El Refugio nestles in the beauty of Spain’s diverse countryside, amidst vineyards, olive groves and marble mountains. The name El Refugio simply means the refuge and for hundreds of years this home has provided tranquillity to relax and time and space to enjoy life.
The gardens are fenced and private and have so many areas it makes El Refugio the perfect place for couples seeking the ultimate romantic getaway or families and groups who want the space to play, relax or have fun. The formal area to the front acts as a reception and parking, the small pine copse to the side shelters a grand Gazebo. Further to the rear is an open area that includes an open sports volleyball court.
There is a fantastic pool with a large pool terrace on the south elevation accessed from the outdoor barbeque kitchen or via the open plan garden. The pool has a room for changing and a poolside shower and is private and enclosed. The terracing around the pool has ample space and has a range of sun loungers, tables and chairs and a Gazebo for shelter from the sun.
The house itself has five entrances to its different areas. The main entrances through the front take you into a huge open plan converted Bodega which incorporates a lounge with a wall mounted HD TV, plenty of comfy chairs and sofas, a bar and bar area, original working grape and olive presses and huge double 'stable' doors that open to give the feeling that the room extends in to the garden.
From the Bodega you enter the formal dining area and in traditional Spanish hacienda style there are two kitchens (one inside and one outside). The inside kitchen incorporates a breakfast/informal dining area. The outside kitchen has a large barbeque area and is perfect for alfresco cooking throughout the spring and summer.
El Refugio has five bedrooms; Two twin rooms on the ground floor have their own entrance door to outside patio areas. Upstairs there are three bedrooms; two have Juliet balconies overlooking the pine copse and the third leads directly onto a large rooftop terrace. Each bedroom has built in wardrobes.
The large rooftop terrace overlooks the vine fields, and almond trees that surround the property, gives superb views of the sunsets over sierra del Carche and is great for just watching the stars in the evening.
For those who want to stay connected wireless broadband is available in the house and garden.
For those who are more active there is a volleyball/badminton court and bikes are available to hire to explore the local area. There are walks outside that within minutes take you to remote old cave houses and up into the surrounding olive groves. The area is good for climbing, horse riding and excellent for cycling. The beaches north of Alicante are good for kite surfing, wind surfing and canoeing.
Favourite day activities include Aqualandia and Terramitica.
For those who prefer relaxation, Chinorlet is located in an area surrounded by some the best Bodegas in Alicante and the region of Valencia. Wine tasting is great fun and the local red wine superb. Why not relax with a glass of red wine in the sunken bath surrounded by antique marble tiles as the sun sets through the arched windows.
Chinorlet nestles in the beauty of Spain’s diverse countryside, amidst vineyards, olive groves and marble mountains. El Refugio sits immediately above the village of Chinorlet. The village can be seen from one side and rolling hills covered with pine, olive and almond trees surround the property. Dotted in amongst are fields of vines. Chinorlet(known as Xinorlet in the local dialect) is set inland in between Pinoso and Monover. It has two excellent Spanish restaurants, local bars, a small grocery shop and a small English bar open in the season for those who miss the taste of England.
El Refugio is 40 minutes from Alicante airport, Alicante City and beaches. Benidorm and Murcia are less than an hour away. It is an excellent location to get away from it all, spend time with friends, family and loved ones with easy access to resort areas.
