Almuñecar is located on the Costa Tropical, so called because the climate allows the cultivation of exotic fruits.
Inside, the mountains rise to over 2000m.
The Phoenicians founded the first settlement here, which they called Sexi, and the Romans built an aqueduct remains are still visible coyos.
Almuñecar is now a major tourist center with beautiful and lively beaches.

Lovely villa with stunning views

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this villa and Jose, the owner was very helpful and responded very quickly to any queries we had. The villa was spotless and very tastefully decorated. The views from the terrace were stunning, I would highly recommend this villa. Although the centre of Almunecar is flat the surrounding area is very hilly. My husband found driving on these steep roads fine but I found it more challenging. A trip to Granada and the Alhambra was definitely worth while and the journey on the motorway through the Sierra Nevada Mountains is beautiful. I would advise against and return journey ordinary road unless you have nearves of steel. I beautifully quiet peaceful part of Spain, a largely undiscovered gem.
