On the Costa del Azahar, Spain, ideally located, tranquil, townhouse with 3 bedrooms, 2 full baths, and two car garage. Our delightful townhouse with its terrific views of the Mediterranean Sea and nearby hills is in Peniscola, on a privileged part of the Mediterranean Sea, and about 125 km (78 miles) north of Valencia Int. Airport, and 220 km (140 miles) south of Barcelona. It is tastefully furnished to sleep 6 to 8 and with a fully equipped kitchen to cater to those who like to have a delicious romantic dinner on the 40sq. meters (415 s.f.) terrace while the red sun sets on the Mediterranean Sea. It is less than a kilometer from the wide sandy beaches extending more than 6 kilometers. The swimming pool is few steps away. The place is ideal for a family with children or newlyweds on their dream honeymoon. Located in a peaceful and tranquil area, yet close enough to take advantages of all the facilities in the area.
Entering the place, you will be impressed by its natural cheerful brightness. You are in an open space with fantastic views of the sea; the living room is next to the dining area. There are ceiling fans and heating units in all the rooms. The Living area is furnished with well coordinated sofa bed, 2 wing chairs, glass topped table so you can sip your cold drink while watching the satellite TV, or listen to music from the CD player or the radio housed in the wall unit. A small collection of books and board games are available, too. The dining table has 6 chairs and extends to accommodate 8, and it also, has a hutch with a storage cabinet. We like to cook and enjoy leisurely meals, so the kitchen is fully equipped with a large refrigerator/freezer, full oven, microwave, coffee maker, kettle, toaster, dishwasher, and all the other compliments of a family oriented kitchen. Adjacent is the laundry area with a washing/dryer machine. The first floor has a bathroom with a shower stall. A modern wood and steel stairs lead to the upstairs bed rooms. On the landing there is a cabinet full of linen and towels. The master bedroom has a queen size bed with all coverings for Winter/Summer, night table with reading light, and wardrobe. It is light filled with windows over looking the Patio. Opposite are the other two bed rooms with full views of the sea and hills. One room has two single beds , and the other has a trundle bed, storage, and wardrobe. The floor has a bathroom with bathtub and shower.
The large terrace 40 sq.m. (415s.f.) surrounded by delightful scenery, it is a pleasant spot for breakfast, dinner, contemplation, or just relaxing with a book. There is a patio in the back for sunbathing, too. The swimming pool is just few steps away.

Peniscola / Benicarlo:
On the Costa del Azahar (coast of orange blossoms) in the Community of Valencia where orange groves fill the plains miles upon miles. It is a 75-90 minute (125 km) drive or by train north of Valencia, Reus airport (Ryanair) is to the north 60-75 minutes (120 km) away, as well as Bercelona which is two hours drive (220 km). Peniscola is a small town, with a population of 5000, and is the most attractive spot on this coast. It lays roughly mid point on the north-south axis between Barcelona and Valencia. It is certainly placed in a privileged part of the Mediterranean. The Municipality of Peniscola covers 80 square kilometers, 17 of which run parallel to the coastline, an area which is fairly distributed between woodland areas and warm Mediterranean groves of oranges, olives and almonds.
The old town is perched on a rocky promontory topped with an old castle built by the Knights Templar on an Arab castle foundation, and rises 64 meters (205 ft) above the sea. The castle is the second most visited monument in Spain after Alhambra. It is a typical post-card scene of narrow cobbled streets, and whitewashed houses. The city was a center of Christendom for a short period 1421-1429 during a conflict in the Catholic church when Pope Benedict XIII and Pope Clement VIII resided in the castle. The city wall was built in 1578 during the reign of Philip II. The movie El Cid starring Charleston Heston and Sophia Loren was filmed here. The sea promenade (Paseo Maratimo) and its beaches stretch north to Benicarlo for about 6-8km (5 miles), dotted with a lot of cafes and restaurants, and makes for a pleasant walk especially in the evening. The coast south of Peniscola is rocky and steep and has a lot of cliffs and small beaches and isolated coves good for fishing, scuba diving and snorkeling. Also to the south lies the Sierra de Irta with a 26 km of hiking and horseback trails, can be made on foot in about 5 hours or by a rough terrain vehicle. It is an excellent day out for a group of able people.
All amenities are within 5-25 minutes. There are major shopping strips especially in Bencarlo (8-10 km) or in Vinaros (15 km). Local fiesta Les Danses is held on the 8th and 9th of September.
You can enjoy the many local sandy beaches, sailing, canoeing, and paddle boats. The narrow steep streets and whites houses of the old city are filled with history. Providing a contrast with the old quarters are the modern streets and wide avenues of the tourist area.
Climate:
The weather is mild and extreme temperatures are rare. Taking a stroll in Peniscola is a delight year round.
The coasts have classic Mediterranean climate of hot summers cooled by sea breeze and mild balmy winters.

Shopping:
Supermarkets (supermercados) are plentiful. Food prices are very reasonable. Fruits, vegetables and variety of bread and seafood are excellent and fresh. Large department stores (hipermercados) are vast and sell everything under one roof. Carrefour is close by on the N-340. It’s prices are inexpensive, and sells household furnishing, electronics, hardware, clothing, groceries, bakery, and it houses hairdresser, shoes, eyeglasses, cafeteria, toys, and host of other merchandise and services. Smaller shops, with traditional personal touch and to get in touch with the local life, are abundant. If you are in Valencia visit El Corte Ingles department store. It is the most famous department store in Spain. Some locations consist of 7-10 floors. Many stores close at midday from 1:30-2 pm to 4:30-5 pm when they reopen till 8-9 pm. Most are closed on Sunday, but many stay open in resort areas.
Restaurants:
There a good number of superb restaurants. The Community of Valencia’s main dish is the famous paella and can be ordered with large number of combinations of ingredients. Seafood form a large part of diet here. Most restaurants start dinner service after 8 pm. Many restaurants close on Sundays. Diners tend to eat at leisure and they may spend three or more hours dining. Most restaurants offer a midday menu del dia offering three courses with choices for each course plus bread and a drink at very reasonable prices. They are a good bargain to eat cheaply at lunchtime and get the best value for your money.
Tipping normally included in the bill, but it is customary to leave an additional 3-5% especially if you appreciate the service. Most of foreign visitors like to eat Tapas in bars. Tapas are small dishes of variety of foods. Sampling is the best way and is an easy and fun way to eat. You just point to what you want.
Attractions
Peniscola old town surrounds a wonderful medieval castle set on top of a rock jutting into the sea. Good beaches, sailing and water sports, good restaurants, romantic walk by the sea wide promenade. Simply sitting in a café and enjoying a coffee and watching life goes by can be an enjoyment by itself. Numerous fiestas (in Peniscola during, January, February, May, June, and September) are held year round close by, or further away provide a heap of colorful spectacles. Weekly open markets are held on Mondays and Wednesdays in Peniscola and nearby Benicarlo.
Benicassim: south of Peniscola hosts beach raves every summer.
Maestrat to the west of Peniscola, is a very rugged region with ancient villages that seem like an exhibit from a museum of medieval rural life and there are few castles. Most important of these is Morella (65 km/40 miles to the west) is a walled city with 2500 meters (7,750 foot) perimeter with 14 watch towers and several gates. The city rises 1000 m. (3100 feet) sheer from the plain, excellent scenic driving, and makes for a good day out in the interior.
Delta de l’Ebre natures preserve 40 km (22 miles) to the north, offers wetlands, lagoons, salt marshes, dunes and 300 species of birds. It offers an ecological museum, fishing, canoeing, horseback riding, and waterways tours.
Tarragona: a Roman amphitheater ( 120 km/75 miles north of Peniscola on AP-7), nearby is a Roman tower, other Roman remains including a gigantic pre-Roman stones where the Roman wall was built, archeological museum, and a magnificent aqueduct. Highly recommended. For a family outing there is a theme park Universal Mediterrania near Tarragona about an hour to the north.
Tortosa (40 km 25 miles north) offers a spectacular gothic cathedral and a hilltop castle of La Zuda.
Valencia: (population 800,000) is the capital of the province of the same name. It is third largest city in Spain. A historically and culturally rich city, can be appealing to almost all tastes, and its major fiesta of las Fallas (March 15) includes images burning and fireworks. The railroad station (Estacion del Norte), where you can catch a train to Peniscola, is downtown near the old tower Torres de Serranos. It is a palatial place with fine decorative tile and woodwork. The historical old town section in the center of Valencia is very attractive to spend a whole day in. It is also just about 300 meters/yards from the railroad station. The tourist office in the station provides lots of information, maps, and brochures. South of Valencia (15 km) is Albufera, a large fresh water lake and wetland natural reserve with scenic and large bird species (over 250).
Manises and Paterna are small town just outside Valencia and close to the airport, and for centuries have been producing colorful and beautiful ceramics. Most of the historical sites, and several attractive museums lie conveniently close to each other.
