Description: |
Set deep in the heart of the mountain range of Sierra de la Almijara, between Granada (1 hours drive) and the ‘tropical coast’ (20 mins drive), with nearest airport (Malaga) at a convenient 1h 20 minutes drive. Otivar is the perfect place from which to explore unspoilt countryside within a stone’s throw of the crystal clear blue waters of the Costa Tropical.
The house is situated in the old part of the village made up of picturesque pedestrian narrow streets. This charming 100-year-old property which has been painstakingly restored by its owners to a typical andalucian rustic-style cottage, accommodates up to 4 people.
Otivar is also a convenient base from which to explore the area or undertake organised sporting or cultural activities. For sightseers there is the unforgettable city of Granada or any of the white mountain villages which dot the hillsides everywhere, especially those found in the spectacular Alpujarra mountains less than 1 hour’s drive from Otivar.
A trip to the coast down through the verdant Tropical Valley, a richly cultivated area full of exotic fruit orchards, will bring you to Almuñécar. This local market town is worth a visit for its Moorish castle, botanical gardens and Roman monuments such as the aqueduct. To the east lies Salobreña, a picturesque white village surrounded by sugar cane fields and crowned with another impressive Arab fortress. While to the west can be found Nerja, home to one of the largest cave systems in the country and the tallest stalactite pillar in the world.

The facilities comprise a large fully equiped roof terrace with bbq on the 2nd floor from which stunning views over the mountains and the valleys can be enjoyed, 2 double bedrooms (one twin) both overlooking the valley on 1st floor. The ground floor has a large fully equipped kitchen with washing machine, a lounge with TV and wood burning stove, a bathroom on a split-level leading to a small breakfast terrace.
All linen (except beach towels) provided.

There is a village swimming pool and for those who enjoy nature and the outdoors, walking through and following the course of the river ‘Verde’ can be an exhilarating experience, in the summer months it is even possible to swim in its natural water pools. Those interested in more active pursuits will find a huge choice of local sports, from canyoning on the River Verde, deep sea diving on the coast to hangliding in the mountains. And let’s not forget the southern most skiing resort in Europe overlooking the Mediterranean in Sierra Nevada (Sol y Nieve) only 1h30 mins drive from Otivar.
