The quaint village of Salares is situated in the Andalusian province of Malaga, just 58 kilometres from Malaga City and 37 kilometres to the coast at Torre del Mar. Salares sits at an altitude of 540 metres on the very edge of the Tejeda National Park and Game Reserve within the region of the Axarquia, on the scenic Mudejar Architecture Route. Salares has a tiny population of about 400, but good facilities that include a health centre, supermarket, a municipal outdoor pool due in 2011, a free outdoor gymnasium and a couple of restaurants and bars.
