Description (written by the owner)

An old, traditional cortijo converted to allow 1-12 guests to relax in the peace and tranquility of the Andalusian countryside. Situated 6km from Iznajar village.

A renovated Cortijo, Las Rosas offers versatile accommodation (inspected, recommended and featured in the guidebook 'Alastair Sawday's Special Places to Stay in Spain').

It can be configured to suit a couple, a family or a group of friends and families, up to a maximum of 10-12 guests. Private courtyards, and a pool overlooking tranquil olive groves allow guests to chill and relax.

Casita Liebre (meaning Little Hare House) is reached through the original farmyard doors leading onto the private courtyard and is one of three possible cottages.

Accessed from the courtyard via french doors, the accommodation is based in the oldest part of the reformed Cortijo, with low beamed ceilings and niches retained from the original building.

There is a lounge, with large comfortable Moorish style divan sofas and a log burner for cool winter evenings. There is also satellite television. French doors provide light and access to the courtyard. An open staircase leads upstairs

A low doorway takes you into the fully equipped kitchen which also opens onto the courtyard through French doors.

There is a full sized electric oven/ hob plus a fridge with a freezer compartment - essential for cooling the local beer and wine! A good range of plates, pots, glasses etc. allow for home from home, relaxed food preparation. Basics (such as salt, pepper, oil, washing up liquid etc.) are provided as part of our service. There is a kitchen table to seat four for dining.

Upstairs there are two twin/double bedrooms, both with ensuite bathrooms, under a pitched beamed roof. Both bedrooms have comfortable twin beds (or a double, if required); a wardrobe; a small dressing table and each opens into a bathroom with walk-in shower; toilet and basin.

Outside there is a large private courtyard planted with jasmine and lavender, surrounded by traditional high white walls. You are not overlooked by the other casitas. There is outside seating for relaxing and a table for eating, with sails providing shade on our hot Andaluz summer days. A barbecue allows you to make the most of outside living.

The communal patio and pool area is shared by a maximum of 10 guests and is set on the side of the hill facing fantastic views of the valley, hills and olive groves. There are tables and chairs provided for eating, or sitting with a cool drink and watching the sun set…… There are also cushioned loungers for sun worshippers! The pool is set on the edge of the patio and has a comfortable seating ledge in the water, giving you somewhere to sit and keep cool whilst you read or just gaze at the view…..

There is an outside shower room with toilet and basin so that you do not have to return to your casita once ensconced in the sunshine.

There is also a laundry room accessed from the pool patio area, with a washing machine, wash basin, iron and ironing board for communal use.

An hour and a half from the airports of Malaga and Granada, the secluded setting of Cortijo las Rosas, amidst tranquil olive groves, gives guests a chance to chill out and relax around the pool between days out visiting historic and cultural centres within easy reach: Antequera, Alcala la Real, Cordoba, Granada, Malaga, Ronda, Seville etc...

Taste the oil produced from the renowned olives of the Subbetica; enjoy the local wines from Montilla or the Anis produced in nearby Rute; barbecue the plentiful fish and seafood available or let us organise a takeaway from nearby Molino los Justos with its traditional “home cooking.” Our local town, Algarinejo, boasts the restaurant Casa Piolas which features in Jon Clarke’s “Dining Secrets of Andalucía” – their Menu de Degustación is an experience not to be missed!

Nearby Lake Iznajar offers a beach with pedalos and kayaks for hire with a beach bar on hand for cool drinks or eating. Other activities, such as cycling, quad biking, horseback riding, donkey treks and bird watching can be arranged for you by your hosts.

Walkers have the freedom to explore the countryside of the Subbetica right from their doorstep - or to walk amongst the extraordinary rock formations of El Torcal. El Chorro Gorge offers the adventurous a chance to experience the spectacular Camino del Rey or to trek around our local “mesa” overlooking the lake, and examine the archaeological dig carried out by the University of Granada – you might have to share the view with the goatherd and his goats...

Allow Cortijo las Rosas to help you unwind, enjoy an unspoilt Andalucía and guide you to its historic treasures.

What a wonderful week we had!

What a wonderful week from beginning to end. Marylyn and Gillian made us feel really welcome with a fantastic pre booked hamper to get us started and concise instructions as to our safe arrival. The Cortijo is beautifully presented and every effort has been made to providing a very comfortable stay. We travelled with two very excitable preteenagers and were extremely grateful for the large selection of pool toys, books and games to keep them from asking for the dreaded electronic tranquillisers! Marylyn was a wealth of information and pointed us in the direction of a local archeological dig and areas of historical interest. Although we did not visit the major tourist attractions in Cordoba and Granada we found plenty to keep us occupied and are planning our next visit to this wonderful part of rural Spain. Sending a huge thank you to you both, Gillian and Marylyn, we had a great day in Malaga too! X

Countryside relaxation with City adventure

Cortijo Las Rosas is perfect if you like to have choices. When tranquillity was our desire we stayed at the beautiful clean pool area where you will meet other residents. If we wanted to go somewhere there are several smaller and larger towns all either 10 minutes (Iznajar), 30 minutes (Priego de Cordoba and Antequera) or 60-80 minutes (larger cities like Cordoba, Granada, Ronda) drive away. If we wanted to do our own cooking there were all the necessary tools. The Sisters keep everything tidy and in perfect order and you can always ask them for advice/recommendations.

Wonderful appartment

Wonderful appartment with all the facilities you need. The house is located in beautyful surroundings in the middle of the olive fields, so there is some way to drive to the nearby towns. Gillian and Marylynne are wonderful hosts and they are always ready to give advice about restaurants, towns, attractions etc. The welcome-pack is definetely worth the money and contains everything you need for the first days. This place is really worth visiting, and we would be happy to come back another time.

Cortija Las Rosas: Highly recommended

Gillian and Marylynne’s Cortijo las Rosas near Iznajar is a real gem! I found this peaceful retreat quite by chance, lucky me! I really needed a rest after many many days of traveling and visiting. And this place was perfect place to settle down, rest my brain and soul and breath fresh air. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I arrived at their house after quite a fun journey up the twisting road. You never know exactly when you will arrive but you must trust Gillian´s absolute detailed road indications. It is impossible to miss the place. Once I unpacked, saw the pool and the olive trees around the house, smell the jasmine which climbs the jasmine that climbs the wall of the casita, I knew I did not want to leave. It was exactly how I pictured paradise! Minutes after my arrival, I extended my stay for 2 more nights. I would have stayed more if I didn’t have other commitment. Iznajar is in the middle of Andalucia, so you can go to Cordoba, to Granada, to Malaga pretty easily then come back home and relax. I was given la Casita Galgo, a two-story apartment with my bedroom on the main floor and the kitchen and living room up the stairs. Lovely place! Every detail is designed so that the guest feels at home. Nothing is missing. Gillian and Marylynne check in once in a while to see if everything’s fine, which was at any time, obviously. The system of stars here is practically obsolete! I would give a zillion stars. The hosts are brilliant, the site is magical, the environment a delight. I’m sure I will be back. I just want to share this little piece of paradise with the ones I love. Gillian and Marylynne, I have no word to express my gratitude!

Truly Wonderful!

It is not possible to say enough positive things about Cortijo Las Rosas! Everything was superb: from our Casita, to the grounds of the Cortijo, to its owners! We enjoyed every second! Cortijo Las Rosas is up in the countryside, about 10-15 minutes above the adorable town of Iznajar. The road up hill is beautiful and the last part of it on a track through the olive grove! (A normal car is fine to make this journey, and the hosts' directions are truly perfect, you can't get lost!) We stayed in Casita Liebre. It was very spacious, having a living room, fully equipped kitchen, and two bedrooms both with full ensuite bathrooms. We opted for the lovely Welcome Pack of food, and it was very generously stocked with local goodies! The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you could need. We took advantage and cooked dinner several nights during our stay. The bedrooms are spacious, with very comfortable beds. The grounds of the Cortijo are very quiet and peaceful, a perfect retreat. They have a lovely pool area, perfect for relaxing! Washing machine, dryer, ironing board, extra fridge/freezer, hair dryers, pool toys, board games...honestly everything you would need is here! The location of Cortijo Las Rosas also makes it fantastic for day-trips. We took several day trips to Granada, Córdoba, Ronda, Nerja, and Malaga. Our fantastic hosts, Gillian and Marylynne, had printed out directions, parking advice, and "must-sees" for us, for each city! Truly helpful! And the best part of each of these day-trips was coming "home" to our peaceful Casita! We have traveled routinely throughout Europe for the past decade (or so) and rented numerous properties, this one was certainly a top favorite! Our stay at Cortijo Las Rosas was truly a highlight of our trip and we can't thank Gillian and Marylynne enough! We look forward to coming back and having a relaxing time at your Spanish Countryside Retreat!

Great place to stay

My daughters and I rented a beautiful 2 bedroom cottage at Cortijo Las Rosas. The setting was superb right beside an inviting swimming pool and nestled amongst picturesque olive tree studded hills, with far reaching views and amazing sunsets. The cottage was very comfortable and clean and was very well equipped. The peaceful location is ideal for visiting Cordoba, Granada and several other smaller towns of great interest.

Idyllic Rural Oasis of Calm...

One of the most pleasurable and 'magical' holiday experiences ever - this was our third visit to Cortijo Las Rosas in July over a 14 month period, which I think speaks volumes. Whatever time of year, the astounding owners have created a beautiful and idyllic rural haven in Andalucia, it's probably the most peaceful, tranquil and divine hideaway in Spain. The property boasts three superb and delightful casitas with excellent facilities that are situated in a breathtaking location cradled deep in the ancient olive groves that fill the region. It's spectacular by the exquisite swimming pool, which overlooks a stunning valley, particularly at night; either lit or unlit, just gazing under the vast myriad of stars and constellations dancing and winking at you. Gilly and Marylynne energetically and effortlessly manage Las Rosas, which is clearly lovingly well maintained and runs like clockwork. They are extremely attentive hosts who care deeply that you enjoy your time and stay; nothing is too much trouble! They're tremendous fun, so kind, thoughtful and utterly charming. We highly recommend a 'Spa Day' at Cortijo Las Rosas (or one-off treatment in Iznajar). We've done both! Relax while you have your 'treats' in the comfort of your Casita or private patio. Sarah Jackson is just wonderful and you definitely get more than a treatment - her kindness and healing qualities radiate through her work. Her deep tissue massage is beyond belief, but she also does full body massage and Indian head massage. There are more 'beauty' treatments such as facials, body exfoliation, pedicures, manicures, etc. too. I opted for the luxury holistic pedicure, which was incredible and simply didn't recognise my beautiful tootsies afterwards! Gilly and Marylynne's friendly advice is invaluable, both immersed in Spanish culture, they are extremely helpful and accommodating in guiding you at any given time; excursion, adventure, unique dining experiences, relaxation - appearing with guides, maps and further literature with an almost sixth sense! Right from the off, you know you're in very good hands. Las Rosas' location is a fantastic starting point to tour the Subbetica de Cordoba region; our day trips included Antequera, Cordoba, El Chorro, El Torcal nature reserve, Granada (the Albayzin), Priego de Cordoba and Zuheros. Cortijo Las Rosas is the perfect retreat, an enchanting and 'magical' place to relax and unwind.

Fantastic break and one to be repeated!

Dean and I have been to Cortijo las Rosas before and we really looked forward to going back! We stayed in Casita Perdiz which is a very spacious, clean, well appointed self catering suite of rooms. Everything you need to make it an enjoyable stay is right there! There is lots of information, guides and maps in the casita to help you chose a day’s outing or you can just sit and chill by the pool with a good book! It’s just a great location to have a wonderful relaxing time.! Gillian and Marylynne are wonderful hosts and are very helpful and knowledgeable and are very pleased to help with any queries or questions you may have. There are many lovely local restaurants and there is a very good supermarket which has everything you may need! Some nice wines in there too! We think there is something for everyone be it wildlife, walking or a visit to some of the many historical sites in some of the towns or cities. Dean and i have had a great time and look forward to future visits. Thanks Gillian and Marylynne for making our visit such a fabulous one!

Jewel in the Andalusian crown

After searching for the perfect rural getaway my partner and I came across Cortijo Las Rosas. Nestled in rolling olive groves the Cortijo offers the discerning visitor peace and tranquility and you can feel the stress of the daily 9-5 slog melting away as soon as you arrive. The drive to the Cortijo offers some spectacular views of lake Iznajar, the surrounding countryside and Iznajar itself. Our accommodation was the gorgeous Casita Galgo which was tastefully decorated and had it's own courtyard which was perfect for those evening BBQ's. If lounging around the pool gets too much for you we found the Cortijo the perfect springboard to go off exploring the surrounding areas, and there was lots of information provided to help us decide where to go. Gilly, Marylynne and Steve made our stay a memorable one and we would like to thank you all very much for your warm welcome and expert knowledge of the local places of interest. A big thanks to Steve for taking us out on a bike ride along the Via Verde. We will definitely be coming back to Cortio Las Rosas. We loved it!
