We have seven children, aged between seven months and twenty years old. We were looking for a holiday place where all of us, big and small, could feel perfectly satisfied, without having to drive anywhere, or go anywhere, because we know that, when we have a baby, his rhythms can make holidays very difficult for everybody else. We were also looking for a holiday place where we could have fun as a family, spend time together as a family, away from screens and crowds. We found it all in the Mill, and more! Karen, the housekeeper, was waiting for us as arranged and kindly guided us through the country road down to the mill, which was very helpful. She was still showing us the house and its facilities, when we heard the splash of the water and realized most of our family was already swimming. We had found a completely secluded house. We didn’t have to drive anywhere, and apart from a few trips to the shops (Dad’s job) and Sunday mass, we actually didn’t. We had a river for our “private swimming pool”, and we could jump into the chilly waters from our garden. The children swam by day and by night, under the sun or under the rain, any time they felt like it. They explored every little corner of it and they even built a raft together and had great fun with it in the water! The river was perfectly safe, and we were delighted to gently supervise their swim, as all we wanted was to spend time with them. Our six-year-old girl actually overcame her fear of the water during this wonderful week and swam happily around her siblings with her lifejacket on. Between swims, we played board games and badminton, we watched the stars and we walked in the woods. We watched lizards licking the crumbs from our food, we had dinners under the vine canopy and enjoyed lazy barbecues. The twenty-year-old went canoeing in the lake nearby, and all of us had our private time to read or lie on the hammocks. As for the baby, he kept his home rhythms without any stress, in and out of the house, learning to sit on the grass, drinking his milk by the river. It was the first time we had a holiday house big enough for our family, without having to invent beds from sofas or pillows. Some of the children slept in the Weaver’s cottage and felt very autonomous! We were so near nature, it felt like camping, but with all the comforts of modern life, in a house where nothing lacks. We will surely come back! Five stars for this holiday place!

The mill is completely isolated and perfect for a relaxing holiday away from it all. We enjoyed walks around the river, jumping in, swimming and climbing the rocks in the very cold water and watching the lizards and dragonflies that live alongside you in the garden. Like other reviewers, we didn't venture far from the house, until all supplies were diminished and we had to visit the shops, but Vila de Cruces was always welcoming to visit, with nice bars and a variety of shops where you can pick up most things you need. Enjoyed the badminton set and fighting over the hammock with the best view!

There were four of us, my wife, sister, brother-in-law and myself. We all thoroughly enjoyed our week. The peace and quiet of The Mill is terrific, just the sound of running water to be heard. I slept better than I can remember for years. Both houses are visual delights down to the smallest details (I loved the wooded door handles) and so well appointed. The only addition I would make is a new corkscrew and bottle opener! Outside there is so much space and a splendid river right there to swim in. Vila de Cruces has a terrific vegetable and fresh fish shop, a good cafe in the centre and the Don Din (?) was fun to eat in, on the outside section. The Saturday octopus meals served in Vila were memorable. We went to Santiago one day, which was well worth the visit but stayed at the mill the rest of the time. Thank you, Kate and Karen!

We really enjoyed our holiday at The Mill. It is situated in a wonderful location, surrounded by beautiful countryside. The interior is finished to a very high standard and we very much enjoyed spending the evenings sitting infront of the log fire. There are several outside spaces where we took the opportunity to relax, my personal favourite being the hammock area which enabled me to enjoy the river. A fabulous escape from the stresses of modern life.
