Notes

Niguelas is a traditional village with shops, bars and two restaurants. Set just below the Sierra Nevada mountains and on the edge of the Lecrin Valley make it ideal for walkers. The pan-European GR7 walking route runs close by. Nigúelas has a strong musical tradition and there are events throughout the year. Niguelas is the highest village in the lovely Lecrin Valley. The rest of the valley is made up mainly of pretty white villages surrounded by olive, almond and citrus groves. A beautiful area - perfect for a drive, a walk or a spot of lunch! Travel: Airports. Granada airport - Easyjet have recently started flights from Gatwick and Manchester. The airport is small and car hire options might be more limited, but it's only 30 minutes away. Malaga Airport is 1.5 hours away by car, and Almeria is 2 hours drive. Although there is a good bus service to Niguelas and nearby Durcal, car hire is strongly recommended to allow you to explore all the area has to offer. Distances: Travel times by car. Costa Tropical, 30 minutes. Granada and the Alhambra, 25 minutes. Ski resort, 55 minutes. Further Details: Granada is a beautiful city with a rich cultural heritage from its Moorish past. A vibrant city with many squares and narrow lanes with shops, tapas bars and restaurants. No visit to Granada is complete without seeing the Alhambra Palace and the Generalife gardens. The monument is extremely popular at any time of year so we recommend you book well in advance. The Alpujarra - a unique mountainous region south of Granada. The Moors persisted here longer than anywhere else in Spain. This is reflected in the small white villages made up of flat-roofed houses. Villages in the high Alpujarra (Pampaneira, Capilieira, etc) are particularly worth a visit. Trevelez, one of the highest villages in Spain is famous for its ham. La Laguna de Padul - La Ruta del Mamut (the mammoth route) is a series of walks in and around the wetlands. There are wooden walkways and hides for observing the waterfowl. The area is ideal for walkers and naturalists as there is a great variety of wildlife - higher in the Sierra Nevada wild boar and Spanish Ibex can be seen.

Just what we needed, relaxation in abundance, Los Almendros in Niguelas is just as good as ever. Adam and Hermy gave us a lovely welcome and were as helpful as always. This was our fifth time of staying at Los Almendros, has everything we want for a relaxing break - lovely village, good bars, sunshine, pool and lots of places to visit, some we've seen before and new, did a visit to Guadix to see the cave houses, really amazing.

Well looked after by Adam and Hermy, this was our 4th visit to Niguelas; it certainly didn't disappoint, we were able to relax by the pool, walk the local surroundings and drive to the local white villages. A real home from home. Thanks you once again, I expect this won't be the last time you see us!!

We loved everything about the house, the friendly hosts, its decoration, the intimacy of the garden with swimming pool and how it is situated in the village. We stayed for two weeks and went for walks in the Sierra Nevada almost every day. As Casa los Almendros is such a nice place, we didn´t mind the drive of about half an hour to the starting points of the walks. We did a few short walks starting in Nigüelas that were really nice as well. We had a lovely stay.

House was reasonably large, with an excellent partly shaded private patio and sizable pool, ideal for hot weather and peaceful relaxation. Good selection of English books. Wi-fi could not be relied on, failed twice during our stay. Fortunately Durcal had an internet cafe. Friendly owner reinstated it once when requested. Hot water was just 40°C. Good walking to be had in the surrounding area, but on occasions we encountered several unrestrained and rather frightening barking dogs, protecting local land and property. Niguelas is very old with narrow streets unfit for modern cars. Fortunately, there is a wider road, which connects the house with Durcal, where it is possible to park next to a modern supermarket and walk into town for other items.
