Built in the 1860’s, The cottage is a cosy traditional Irish cottage on the edge of the National Trust property Rowallane Gardens. This extra special cottage is nestled into the hillside of an ancient fort in the charming village of Saintfield of County Down. Recently lovingly restored, much care and attention was made to maintain its unique character and features and a stay here is truly an escape into Irish history. The cottage is part of a private estate. The space The cottage is the style of a typical traditional old Irish stone cottage and was built in 1860. The walls of the cottage are very thick and the original cottage consisted of a living room/kitchen with a large fire inglenook area where food would have been prepared, a separate bedroom and a sleeping loft upstairs. It was extended in the 1980’s to add another bedroom and an indoor bathroom. It then fell into disrepair and was left uninhabited for a number if years.
