The "House of the Cures" comes from the rehabilitation of a house located between party walls in the main barracks of the mining town of Puerto de la Laja on the banks of the Guadiana River. Declared an Asset of Cultural Interest by the Junta de Andalucía in the Historic Site category. The house is named like that, because two Huelva priests, after hanging their habits, gave themselves over to a more dissolute life there.
The House of the Priests is made with criteria of conservation of mining heritage and contemporary architecture. The façade wall has been respected, opening new holes for the new plant, conserving the cover to a water without breaking the unit and the trestle of the mining barracks. Inside, it has been excavated to reduce the original height, allowing the creation of a new mezzanine floor with chestnut logs and pine planking connected to a steel sheet staircase with ground floor.
The ground floor covered with slate slabs of the Sotiel Coronada quarry is distributed in a large living room - dining room and kitchen with steel sheet fireplace. In the mezzanine a bathroom serves as a distribution to a double bedroom and another bedroom with two single beds.
It has been furnished with modern and antique furniture found in the restored house according to the history of the place where it is located. The absence of decoration is a deliberate choice to achieve beauty only broken by the illustrative panels of the future Baixo / Guadiana bass interpretation center.
In front of the main façade there is a bench made of masonry and an exterior paved terrace with views of the river and the ore loading area.
