AROUND AND ABOUT
Valencia city..... Has it all including a formula 1 circuit, ancient and futuristically modern architecture, science, arts, history and culture, a zoo and fantastic sea-life center, the Ricardo Torno racing circuit which hosts the final of the Moto Gp races amongst lots of other events for car and bike enthusiasts. Fiestas aplenty including the celebrations for FALLAS A week long event in March ( 12th to 19th) when huge works of art are erected in the streets of the city and burned to the ground on the final night of the festival. Other Fiesta´s include Easter, Three kings- which is Spanish Christmas and held on the 6th of January, and the Moors and Christians celebrations held in the autumn. Even without fiestas Valencia is a truly spectacular city and offers something for everyone what ever the time of year you visit.
El Bosque and El Saler for Golf..Premier courses just a short drive down the auto via and on the Valencia coast
nearest village to the villa, typically Spanish and very pretty, plus the locals are wonderful. plenty of places to buy a good and cheap meal,or you could push the boat out and visit la posadica an intimate little restaurant where you are assured of a first class meal.Fiesta´s here are too numerous to mention the main fiestas notably are for Fallas week(march in the City, April here) and August when the pueblo really kicks into the holiday season with lots of live music, fancy dress, paella cooking competitions, festivals de torros, visiting circus, and competitions and fun and games for the kids, fireworks and laughter. It´s true to say , and many of my visitors from the UK will back me up on this, that village life is reminiscent of how England used to be, the villager´s take a pride in their community spirit, traditions and festivals keeping them alive and enjoyed in today´s hustle bustle world.
Alborache..Right next to Macastre and the nearest place for supermarket shopping. Fantastic Sunday market too.
Buñol.. Nearest town and famous worldwide for La Tomatina or tomato throwing contest. I have had visitors from as far away as Australia for this event which is always held on the last Wednesday of August. Apart from tomatina you will find the town a busy little place with cobbled back streets to explore as you make your way to the castle and plenty of cheap bars for food and drink to sustain you.
Chiva..Another bustly little town and famous for being the birth place of Spains number one bullfighter Enrique Ponce. Bull running through the town in August.
Cheste and the Ricardo Torno racing circuit..Plenty of things going on here throughout the year for speed freaks as the circuito hosts amongst other things the final for the Moto GP, formula 1 testing, sports car rallies and the like. The villa is ideally placed for visitors wishing to visit the Moto Gp final or other events as it´s approx a 25 minute easy drive from here.
L´Albufera.. Rice growing region and an important wildlife reserve and stop off point for migrating birds. You can take a boat trip on the lake and visit a traditional Albufera house.
Bonaire.. Shop till you drop at this fabulous complex, you can spend the entire day here and as well as the shopping enjoy a really good meal at a really good price in the massive food court, factory outlets too.
Embalse de Forrata and Cortes de Pallas.. 2 local lakes of spectacular beauty. One just down the road, you can see this from the house when the water level is high, and the other a 30 minute drive from here, you can take a pleasure cruise and then stop off in the village for lunch.
Local beaches are numerous as this is a coastal city but my favourites are Sagunto and Cullera. Another lovely coastal resort to visit is Peñiscola, it´s quite a drive but I think worth it. There are also various tourist attractions, water parks, and plenty to suit all tastes in the region.
