1.) Restaurante Grill Mirador Cuevas Bascamao
Well off the tourist map, Restaurante Grill Mirador Cuevas Bascamao takes advantage of its proximity to Santa Maria de Guia's cheese producers. So the famed queso de flor (flower cheese) turns up at this cave restaurant with amazing views of the north of the island. Along with other Canarian classics such as potaje de jaramago (wild rocket stew).

Although it's undergone some sustained gentrification, Arinaga's still very much a place where Canarians visit rather than tourists. And so Restaurante Ca' Miguel continue to serve what their local staff grew up on, the likes of pulpo frito (fried octopus) and the pictured gofio escaldado (scalded cornmeal). Commendably, this beachside eatery has recently become the first restaurant on Gran Canaria to offer gluten-free alternatives for all its menu entries.
