A cultural guide to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria

Las Palmas de Gran Canaria has plenty of things to see and do for culture vultures. It's a mere 20-minute drive from the airport along the GC-1. Here, in no particular order, are the places in the capital to get your cultural fix.

Centro de Cultura Contemporánea San Martín

San Martín - Centro de Cultura Contemporánea

West Vegueta is where you'll find the Centro de Cultura Contemporánea de San Martín, the sister establishment of CAAM. There are regular temporary exhibitions of modern art to astound and confound. It's also a laidback venue for music concerts, with everything from experimental to jazz to rock performances on show.

CAAM

The cobbled streets of Vegueta are also where home to the Centro Atlántico de Arte Moderno. Within view of the Catedral de Santa Ana and just around the corner from the Casa de Cólon. Those of a nervous disposition might be shocked by the art gallery's more avant-garde displays.

Museo Néstor

Museo Nestor

Housed within the capital's iconic Pueblo Canario, Museo Néstor allows the legend of one of the Canary Islands' finest arties, Néstor de la Torre, to live on. Sandwiched by Hotel Santa Catalina and Parque Doramas, this is one of the most architecturally-attractive pockets of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Welcome to Néstor's world.

Museo Elder

Museo Elder

Museo Elder, or Museo Elder de la Ciencia y la Tecnologia to give it its full name, is Las Palmas de Gran Canaria's science museum. The perfect rainy-day escape for the whole family, you won't get into trouble by touching the displays here. In fact, such interaction is positively encouraged at this Parque Santa Catalina tourist attraction.

Centro de Arte La Regenta

La Regenta

A couple of minutes walk away from Santa Catalina Park, along Calle León y Castillo, you'll stumble across the Centro de Arte La Regenta. Like the Vegueta galleries, exhibitions change regularly. The former tobacco factory has been lovingly restored into a celebrated cultured space.
